So it's not just perception. As widely presumed, former point guards land the most NBA head coaching jobs among retired players. Throughout NBA history, up to 61 ex playmakers ended up becoming head coaches in the league. On the other side, only 17 retired NBA power forwards got jobs as main men on the bench. Funny thing is, the least represented position in the coaching ranks is also the one with the best combined record: 54.5 percent of wins – way ahead of point guards and small forwards.
