Multiple reports have James Harden being given an hour to accept or reject the Thunder's extension offer. That's one perspective. A second, also familiar with the talks, say his agent spent a day and a half in OKC prior to the final offer and that both Harden and Rob Pelinka knew for roughly four months that he had no hope of getting a four-year max. Believe who and what you want; just know there's more than one version. Sulia

Johnson has assured Stackhouse that he’ll coach at least one practice this season. The goal is to become an assistant under Johnson, but Stackhouse — who was drafted at No. 3 in 1995 by the 76ers and later traded by current Nets GM Billy King — said he won’t retire until he can no longer dunk. “If I get it on the break, I’m going to dunk it,” Stackhouse said. “I’m not going to dunk it like I did in ’95, but I’m still dunking. That’s kind of my barometer. When I come down the court and I don’t feel like I can still jump and dunk the ball anymore, yeah, it’s time for Stackhouse to retire.” New York Daily News

It's undeniably true that the Lakers, if they're missing anything to make Mike D'Antoni's offense flow, could use an extra shooter or two to float to the corners. It's likewise true, sources said, that the Lakers have had internal discussions for months about pursuing Smith, not only for his athletic gifts but also knowing that J-Smoove is one of free agent-to-be Dwight Howard's closest friends in the game. But if that's really who L.A. wants, there will have to be another team or two recruited into the deal to satisfy Atlanta's demands. ESPN.com

After being waived by the Washington Wizards, Jannero Pargo has received interest from a number of teams, agent Mark Bartelstein told RealGM on Friday. The Chicago Bulls are among the teams that have already reached out to Pargo, and the two parties plan to talk in the coming days, as his representatives will do with other interested teams. “We’ll talk, so we’ll see,” Bartelstein said by phone. The names are out there — NBA veterans still without a team who could be considered an upgrade over the players on the Cavaliers’ bench. Yet two weeks into the season, the Cavs aren’t believed to be aggressively shopping in the leftover bin that includes guys like Mickael Pietrus, Kenyon Martin, Derek Fisher and Gilbert Arenas. Josh Howard was there, too, until the Minnesota Timberwolves recently signed him to a one-year deal. Akron Beacon Journal

Die-hard's salivated at the notion of a near 50% corner 3pt shooter with a reputation for tough-nosed defense and heady transition play that promised options far beyond what the aging Allen could offer a new Rondo-led running attack. Lost in this fervor was a deeper appreciation for the position Lee was in when deciding how to approach the choices that lay before him as a first-time free agent. "Shoot, that process was pretty tough. When you look at the short-term you've got to look at all the possibilities; one being injuries, two being the team's [potential for success], those are two things that really factor into signing a long term deal. For a long term deal you're looking for security, especially when its a good situation like it is here, coming to a great organization with a core group of guys to win big and continue [to do so] throughout my career. So, it was definitely the best decision for the long term." Celtics Blog

After another embarrassing loss in front of their home crowd, the Sacramento Kings are beginning to show major cracks. Just nine games into the 2012-13 season, veterans Chuck Hayes and Francisco Garcia called a players’ only meeting last night while media members waited anxiously outside their locker room door. The Mavs acquired Dahntay Jones and Collison in a sign-and-trade with the Pacers for center Ian Mahinmi, who scored seven points in 13 minutes Friday. Asked if he was emotional in returning to Indiana after he guided the Pacers to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last year, Collison said: "A little bit, but for the most part I got my big issues to worry about with this team.'' Those "big issues'' include helping the Mavs out of a slump that has seen them drop four of their past five games. The remedy? "Leave it in the past and just worry about the next game,'' Collison said. "There's no point in sulking about the last game. Fort Worth Star-Telegram

So this gang will shoot straight. They agree Woodson had everything to do with Wallace's return. And they say Rasheed might be considering getting into coaching. "I know for a fact that's his aspiration," says Donaldson. "He loves to teach. I can see him as an NBA assistant. That's what it'll have to be for him." Yahoo! Sports

And, sure enough, when asked if he missed the NBA during his retirement, Wallace quickly shot back, "Nah, not really." So then what was the worst part about retirement? "Ain't no worst part about retiring!" he blurts. "Believe me." Yahoo! Sports

The word in coaching circles is that Detroit's Lawrence Frank would not have faced any immediate danger even if the Pistons hadn't halted the worst start in franchise history, at 0-8, by finally beating Philadelphia at home Wednesday night. Although it's the third rough launch in a row for Frank -- who was dismissed in New Jersey in 2010 after an 0-16 nightmare and had to dig out of a 4-20 hole last season in his Detroit debut -- he's said to have the support of his bosses. Especially at a time when A) Greg Monroe is the only Piston who looks like a front-line NBA player and B) Detroit had to open the season with seven of the first nine games on the road. ESPN.com

The 48-year-old has heard it’s because he’s too critical of his former team — a no-no at the Garden, as Marv Albert also discovered. “They say I’m hard on them. I say, I’m not hard on them; that’s just the way the game goes and people have opinions,” Oakley said. “Ex-players I talk to, they say, ‘Management, they like you. But sometimes it’s the way you say things, the way you do things.’ New York Daily News

He's not Jay-Z, Beyonce', Jimmy Fallon, Ethan Hawke or Fabolous, but Nate Silver is a star in his own right...and apparently a Nets fan, too! Silver, the New York Times polling expert who correctly called every single state in the Presidential election, is apparently a Nets fan. The Brooklyn Heights resident tweeted an image of the Nets during the National Anthem Thursday night (and from the vantage point, he had some sweet seats.) After the game, Silver tweeted that the win over the Celtics was "Biggest win in the history of the Brooklyn Nets." Don't need no calculator for that! NetsDaily
