HoopsHype.com Interviews Louis
Williams: "I'm living out my dream now"
Louis Williams: It's a learning experience to say the least. You battle it out with guys. John Gilchrist of Maryland and Donell Taylor and Toney Douglas, those guys are some of the best players out of their respective conferences. So for me to hold my own... It's just an experience and I hope I can take it and learn from it. What do you need to work on? LW: Obviously my strengthening, those guys (Gilchrist, Taylor and Douglas) have been in the weight room a long time. They've been in the weight room on a different level than I have. So my strength and probably my quickness and paying attention during the whole workout and just really paying attention to everything will make my experience a lot better in workouts to come. Being from Memphis, would you like to play with the Grizzlies? LW: It would be great to play here. But in the NBA, you really can't get stuck on certain situations. You know, a job is a job and hopefully you'll get hired by someone. Is there a chance you'll change your mind and go to college? LW: My goal has always been the first round, to get picked somewhere high in the first round and really find a situation where I'm comfortable, where I can win some basketball games and learn right behind some great guards. You know, really get to learn the system on the NBA level. I would say my cut-off point would be the first round. Currently you are being projected in the second round. How can you change that? LW: I've gotta come out and play hard and just battle hard with these guys and hopefully hold my own. Try to really show all my strengths, hopefully keep all my weaknesses on the inside and have those things worked on. Were you nervous when you decided to make the jump? LW: It really wasn't a nervous thing. The NBA is a lifetime goal. It's something I've always wanted to do. The opportunity presented itself, so I took it and I'm living out my dream now. Who else will you work out for? LW: I believe I have one with Detroit shortly. And we're still trying to work out with some other teams, trying to get things accomplished now. What's been the biggest change in you from just a year ago? LW: Just my confidence level. The NBA personnel and the NBA teams really started taking me into serious consideration, so I felt like if the NBA is ready for you, then you have to be ready for the NBA because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Who's to say that this opportunity is going to present itself again? Jamie Griffin covers the Grizzlies with WPTY/WLMT in Memphis Tell us what you think about this interview.
