The New Orleans Hornets are working out six players this morning at the Alario Center, one day before the NBA draft. All of the prospects appear to be candidates for the team’s second-round selection, the 46th overall pick. The players are forward Justin Hamilton from LSU, guard Quincy Roberts from Grambling, guard-forward Alex Young from IUPUI, center Henry Sims from Georgetown, center Dusan Cantekin, who is from Sebia and forward/center Robert Sacre from Gonzaga.
The Sacramento Kings have just announced another group of players coming through on Sunday for a workout. No lottery picks in the bunch: Zack Rosen (Pennsylvania), Jamelle Barrett(Saskatchewan), Eli Holman (Indiana), Kyle O’Quinn(Norfolk St.), Kenny Gabriel (Auburn), Alex Young (IUPUI)
Terrence Jones of Kentucky, Perry Jones III of Baylor, UNC’s John Henson and Ohio State big man Jared Sullinger will all be working out in front of the Raptors’ brass today, and will be joined by lesser-known prospects Alex Young of IUPUI, and Tyler Murray of Wagner.
Sam Amico: Alex Young (IUPUI), a potential NBA first-rounder, playing in Portsmouth Invite. Chris Johnson (Dayton), Julian Muvanga (Miami) lone Ohioans
The more NBA calls he fields, the less Ron Hunter is surprised. Alex Young, the current star of Hunter’s IUPUI basketball team, has moved onto the league’s radar. The 6-6 junior would be the second IUPUI player in recent years to make the NBA, joining George Hill, who is in his third season with the San Antonio Spurs. “What helps Alex is a lot of NBA teams are saying, ‘How did we miss on George Hill? We’re not going to miss on this guy,’ ” Hunter said. “Alex is getting additional attention because of what George has done.”
