The Basketball Tournament, a single-elimination event in which the winning team will earn $1 million, will feature more than 40 former NBA players, including Royce White, Nate Robinson and Brian Scalabrine. The event began a year ago with a prize of $500,000 and featured 55 teams. This season, the field will include 97 teams after the open application process closed last week. The tournament will begin July 10-12, and the field will be split up into four regions: Philadelphia (Northeast), Atlanta (South), Chicago (Midwest) and Los Angeles (West).

Tim Frazier, Rodney McGruder, and Christian Watford were brought to camp with the expectation of being funneled to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League as affiliated players. They’ve worked countless hours over the past month with Maine’s new coach Scott Morrison is preparation for the likelihood they’ll land with the Claws. The Celtics can assign up to four players to Maine as affiliated players, which means someone like Erik Murphy could also explore that opportunity if he’s not enticed by another opportunity, including what’s likely to be more lucrative overseas offers.

After being released Friday, Christian Watford has agreed on a new training camp contract to re-sign with the Boston Celtics on Monday, league sources told RealGM. Watford had signed a one-year contract for training camp with the Celtics, and he’ll re-sign for the same terms once he clears waivers.

The Celtics have invited former Penn State guard Tim Frazier, Kansas State swingman Rodney McGruder, and Indiana forward Christian Watford to training camp, according to reports. With Colton Iverson signing with a team in Spain and Mike Moser likely headed to another training camp, the Celtics will enter camp with 21 players. Chris Babb and Chris Johnson are under nonguaranteed contracts and the club has yet to announce the Evan Turner deal, making their 15-man roster rather uncertain. Center Vitor Faverani remains under contract as well as Joel Anthony, who accepted his $3.8 million option for next season. Training camp is likely to remain at the team’s Waltham practice facility and not at Salve Regina in Newport R.I.

As Danny Green displays the importance of shooting in the NBA Finals, Christian Watford is impressing teams with his outside jumper and appears poised to be selected in the draft late this month, a source told RealGM. Watford, the 6-foot-9 forward out of Indiana, has participated in 15 workouts for teams so far and is receiving requests to schedule more. Teams have let Watford know that they believe he has the versatility and jump shot to be a stretch power forward or wing shooter.
The Indiana Pacers will hold their fourth workouts open to the media with prospects for the 2013 NBA Draft on Tuesday, June 18 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Prospects will work out in front of team officials and conduct interviews with the media beginning at 2:30 PM. Players scheduled to workout for the Pacers on Tuesday are Kenny Kadji (Miami, Florida); Trevor Mbakwe (Minnesota); Romero Osby (Oklahoma); Christian Watford (Indiana)) The list of players is subject to change.
