The Brooklyn Nets will hold a free agent workout camp beginning Monday at their practice facility in East Rutherford N.J., and those scheduled to participate are ex-Pittsburgh forward Gilbert Brown, who was in camp with the Celtics two years ago, former Missouri standout and 2012 second-round pick Kim English, former Sacramento Kings first-round pick Donte Greene, who was briefly a Celtic last offseason, Rick Jackson (Syracuse), Malcolm Lee (UCLA, Timberwolves), DeAndre Liggins (Thunder/Heat), David Noel (North Carolina), DaJuan Summers (Pistons), Scott Machado (Iona), and Michael Snaer (Florida State) .
The back of DaJuan Summers’ practice jersey had no number or name. But less than a few hours after officially agreeing to a 10-day contract with the Clippers, Summers was on the court Friday as part of the team’s two-hour workout at their Playa Vista Training Facility. The 25-year-old former Georgetown standout and 2009 second round draft pick of the Pistons is the second youngster the Clippers have brought aboard in the last week. After the roster remained unchanged for the better part of five months guard Maalik Wayns was signed to a 10-day contract on March 9, and Summers was brought in Friday after second-year forward Trey Thompkins was waived. “[DaJuan’s] a good kid, works hard, gives us a 3-4 combo guy,” Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. “Maalik the same thing, we need some bodies now with the injuries we had and some practice time.”
With less than two weeks until the Charlotte Bobcats open training camp at UNC Asheville, the team is firming up commitments for some extra players for camp. Look for Jeff Adrien (Connecticut), Paris Horne (St. John’s), Josh Owens (Stanford) and DaJuan Summers (Georgetown) to be added to the roster. The Bobcats plan to bring 17 or more players to new coach Mike Dunlap’s first training camp.
