Devin Ebanks (Texas Legends): Ebanks’ name is routinely volunteered by NBA executives and scouts — as the first or, at worst, second choice — when you press them for D-League names we can bank on seeing called up. Every day that he’s still in Texas — ever since Jan. 6 rolled around and NBA teams were able to offer 10-day deals — is regarded as not just a blessing but a surprise by the Eduardo Najera-coached Legends, who figured their top scorer would have been long gone by now. Said one Ebanks fan scouting in Reno this week: “He’s already been in the NBA and he does everything better than he used to.” Said another admirer: “[Ebanks] is a long, athletic, 3-pointer shooter who has NBA experience. Who’s not lookin’ for that?”

Devin Ebanks has received interest from the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, according to sources. The Hawks have been in contact with Ebanks for much of the offseason so we’ll see if they ultimately sign him. The Magic have been linked to Ebanks in the past. When Orlando traded Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster four-team deal last offseason, the Magic were hoping to have Ebanks included via a sign-and-trade, but it didn’t work out. Ebanks continues to weigh his options.
The Lakers won’t have much clarity elsewhere. They could use the amnesty provision on Bryant ($30.5 million), Gasol ($19.9 million), World Peace ($7.7 million) or Blake ($4 million). World Peace might opt out of his player option in hopes for a longer but less expensive contract, although that runs the risk of the Lakers letting him walk. The Lakers also will have expiring contracts to Antawn Jamison, Clark, Morris, Goudelock, Robert Sacre and Devin Ebanks, although the latter is sure to leave considering he’s rarely played all season.
