Security at the club couldn’t contain the men, and all hell broke loose. Donte punched Dunbar from behind and continued to punch him in the head, he then ignored police orders telling him to stop, resulting in him being tasered, police said. One prong hit Donte’s back, while the other landed on the right buttocks, according to police.
According to the arrest affidavit released by Miami Beach police on Monday, Greene says he was defending his younger brother, Dmetrique during a fight with St. Louis Rams lineback Jo-Lonn Dunbar, moments later police stepped in and tasered Donte in the rear end. “I am sorry [officer] but this guy has been after me for years since I got into the NBA,” Greene said, according to the affidavit. “He was beating my brother, and I had to do what I did.”
A pair of professional athletes were arrested on Sunday outside of a South Florida night club. Jo-Lonn Dunbar, who plays for the St. Louis Rams of the NFL, and Donte Greene, an NBA free-agent who last played for the Sacramento Kings in 2012, were arrested early Sunday morning outside of Dream Nightclub in South Beach. Both were arrested on charges of battery and disorderly conduct after taking place in a physical altercation outside of the nightclub.
The Kings did not pick up the option on his fifth year, and Greene headed to the NBADL, a stint with the Grizzlies, some time in Puerto Rico, and a deal with the Nets before a serious ankle injury ruined his shot to go to training camp two years ago. Greene went to China to revive his career, averaging 19.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks for the Dongguan Leopards. “Sometimes you can get caught up in the politics of the NBA and not really have the love for the game that you should,” he said. “Going to China helped me get my passion back. It’s where it should be. I’m just trying to come back and be a pro. I’m older now, more mature, and I’ve got a big family to take care of.”
Michael Scotto: Brooklyn Nets will add Donte Greene, a former 2008 first-round pick out of Syracuse, to their summer league team, league sources confirm.
The Nets have signed Donte Greene to play for Brooklyn’s summer league team in Orlando, league sources tell NetsDaily. Greene was slated to go to training camp with the Nets in 2012, but fractured his ankle working out days before he was to travel with the team. Greene was also at the free agent mini camp the Nets hosted last month. Greene will have the most NBA experience of any player on the Nets’ summer league roster with 253 appearances. Greene spent all four years of his career with the Sacramento Kings after a successful career at Syracuse.
The Brooklyn Nets will hold a free agent workout camp beginning Monday at their practice facility in East Rutherford N.J., and those scheduled to participate are ex-Pittsburgh forward Gilbert Brown, who was in camp with the Celtics two years ago, former Missouri standout and 2012 second-round pick Kim English, former Sacramento Kings first-round pick Donte Greene, who was briefly a Celtic last offseason, Rick Jackson (Syracuse), Malcolm Lee (UCLA, Timberwolves), DeAndre Liggins (Thunder/Heat), David Noel (North Carolina), DaJuan Summers (Pistons), Scott Machado (Iona), and Michael Snaer (Florida State) .
NBA veteran Donte Greene has been confirmed as a late addition to the Dongguan Leopards for their three-game New Zealand tour against the Breakers. The Brian Goorjian-coached Leopards from China are touring New Zealand in the first of what’s hoped to be a regular series of games between the two clubs. Originally it had been anticipated the Leopards would not have their American imports for the pre-season tour, but the addition of Greene, with more than 250 games of NBA experience, adds serious interest to the series.

The Boston Celtics waived the nonguaranteed contract of recently acquired Donte Greene on Tuesday. Greene came to Boston last month in a swap with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Fab Melo and cash considerations. The Grizzlies already waived Melo, which means the Celtics sent approximately $1.7 million to Memphis in order to clear a roster spot and dip below the luxury tax line. Boston now has 14 guaranteed contracts totaling approximately $71.2 million. The luxury tax line is set at $71.7 million for the 2013-14 season.
Gary Washburn: #celtics finally figured Melo had no future in Boston, long-term project they didn’t want to wait on. Greene has been letdown but has upside
Ronald Tillery: Griz announce trade sending Donte Greene to Celtics for Fab Melo. Hearing that Griz also received cash to pay some of Melo’s salary
While a majority of NBA teams have gone into hibernation before the start of training camp in October, the Memphis Grizzlies continue to make moves. The Griz are working to acquire center Fab Melo from the Boston Celtics for the rights to Donte Greene, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.
Jason Thompson: Congrats to My Bro @dontegreeneCOS on Making That Grizz Roster…..Welcome Back Homie. #Respect
Ronald Tillery: Griz likely to sign free agent forward Donte Greene in addition to Willie Reed, per source. CA story coming.
The Wolves were not among the teams to watch free agent forward Donte Greene work out last weekend. The Wolves are also not among the teams to express interest in Euroleague forward Tony Gaffney. He got out of his contract with Joventut Badalona (Spain). The Wolves have not reached out to free agent guard Raja Bell.
Donte Greene will continue his career in Puerto Rico with Atleticos de San German. The NBA forward has not played this season due to an injury. Greene will join his new team this week.
Now, with Marc J. Spears tweeting that Greene’s going to work out for NBA teams at Eastern Michigan University Sunday, the Nets are not among those interested in signing him for the rest of the season or even offering him a 10-day contract. According to a league source, “the Nets right now are not interested.” The Nets have an open roster spot.
