James Gist RumorsAll NBA Players
According to sondakika.com former San Antonio Spurs player James Gist, currently playing for Turkey’s Fenerbahe Ulker, tested positive for dope. Also according to the report, Gist could face a suspension but the team said they will continue to investigate the matter before any further action is taken.
James Gist is the main target of Partizan. The sports director of the Serbian team, Dragan Todorovic, confirmed the interest for the 23-year-old American forward, currently a member of the San Antonio Spurs pre-season roster. Gist played last season in Russia for Lokomotiv Kuban, averaging 11.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the national Superleague.
The San Antonio Spurs have added three new players to their training camp roster this week, bringing in former second round pick James Gist, veteran sharpshooter Kirk Penney along with Marcus Cousin, a 6-foot-11 center out of the University of Houston, according to a source close to the situation.
With five days and counting until Media Day 2010, the Spurs’ front office is still in the process of finalizing its roster for training camp. With 11 players under guaranteed contract and three others (Alonzo Gee, Garrett Temple and Curtis Jerrells) also expected in camp, the Spurs have as many as six invitations to hand out. One of them will go to former second-round pick James Gist, the Express-News has confirmed tonight. Meanwhile, media outlets in New Zealand are reporting that Kirk Penney, a member of that country’s national team, is also in line for an invite.
A second-round pick in 2008, Gist had spent his previous two professional seasons toiling in Europe, on the Spurs’ radar but an ocean away from the NBA. “He’s a guy we’re really seriously evaluating,” Budenholzer said at the start of summer league. “He’s trying to make the team, and we’re trying to find out if he’s good enough to make it.”
