After Jamie Skeen, ASVEL made official the signing of former NBA player Hilton Armstrong for one season. Selected in the 2006 NBA draft with the 12th overall pick by New Orleans Hornets, the forward-center has spent the season 2010-11 with Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks with whom he has played 19 games averaging 1.1ppg and 1.3rpg. Armstrong has played 277 games in the NBA during his career
ASVEL announced via website the signing of rookie Jamie Skeen. The player comes from Virginia Commonwealth with whom he scored 15.7ppg and pulled down 7.3rpg in the 39 games played in his senior year in NCAA.
The Celtics held a draft workout on Wednesday with Justin Harper, Lavoy Allen, Jamie Skeen, Keith Benson, Jon Leuer, Jeremy Tyler and Frank Hassell. Matt Howard was originally scheduled for that workout but was not there for an unknown reason. The word was that Justin Harper and Lavoy Allen both played fairly well.
The Celtics plan to hold their first draft workout June 1 at their practice facility in Waltham. Celtics president Danny Ainge said Wisconsin’s Jon Leuer, Richmond’s Justin Harper, Virginia Commonwealth’s Jamie Skeen, and Butler’s Matt Howard — all power forwards — will be among the players invited. “The list will probably grow as we get closer to that workout,’’ Ainge said.
Jamie Skeen’s showing during the NCAA tournament against some projected NBA players vaulted him into the draft mix, possibly in the second round. Skeen had a workout scheduled with the San Antonio Spurs on Friday and probably will have “10-12 workouts” with other teams, Smart said. Skeen and Richmond forward Justin Harper (Meadowbrook High) will attend the NBA’s predraft camp in Chicago on Wednesday-May 22. Smart said Skeen will have to miss graduation for that.
