Coach Avery Johnson had said the Nets would sign a 10-day contract player. And yesterday, a familiar name surfaced on an Internet post as a player of interest: Jarvis Hayes. Only Hayes knew nothing about it. “Haven’t heard anything [from the Nets],” Hayes said from Atlanta where he is working out, weighing his options. “I’ve got a couple things overseas but nothing [with the Nets].”
Are you playing anywhere this season? Jarvis Hayes: “I’m not playing anywhere now. But there’s interest from a few teams as has been the case for awhile.” Would you go overseas like Josh Boone did? Jarvis Hayes: “Most definitely!!!! You never close doors that give you options. I had and still have teams that call regularly from overseas.” Did you come close to joining any NBA team? Jarvis Hayes: “Yes, the Knicks called on the first day of free agency and Chicago and San Antonio were very interested. San Antonio invited me to camp.
Jarvis Hayes could continue his career overseas. According to the Israeli media, the 29-year-old forward has been offered to Maccabi Tel Aviv for the next season. Hayes, who has played during his entire career in the NBA, would be now in the list of candidates to join Maccabi, along with the New Zealander player Kirk Penney. In the 2009-10 season, Hayes averaged 7.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game for the New Jersey Nets.
