Patterson arrives at 8 a.m. for an hour of cardio work before on-court drill work. He returns at 4 p.m. for a second session. He said the workouts and another summer league is part of his journey he hopes lead to the NBA. “I knew it was going to be a process once I got drafted, to go overseas and continue to work on my game until I have the time to get my shot,” Patterson said. “I went over there and played and came here pretty much as soon as I got home. This is what the Hawks wanted. They wanted to bring me along. I feel like they want me here because if they didn’t, they wouldn’t waste their time.
Lamar Patterson is back from Turkey – and said the Hawks are “kicking my butt” in preparation for the Las Vegas Summer League next month. Patterson, a second-round draft pick last year, arrived in Atlanta last week and has been going through two-a-day workouts with assistant coaches. “We are getting after it,” Patterson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday. “They are kicking my butt. It’s good, though. I’m happy that it’s happening. I feel like I’ll be at the best I can be in summer league.”
Lamar Patterson has arrived in Atlanta where he will work out until playing for the Hawks entry in the Las Vegas Summer League next month. Patterson was a 2014 second-round pick by the Bucks and obtained by the Hawks in a draft-day trade last year. He spent the past season in Turkey playing for Tofas Bursa. In 29 games, Patterson averaged 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 28.0 minutes. He shot 50 percent for the field, including 35.3 percent from 3-point range, playing shooting guard and small forward.
The forward-heavy Bucks used two of their second-round picks on forwards and traded their third. After taking Jabari Parker with the No. 2 overall pick Thursday night in the NBA draft, the Bucks selected another 19-year-old player, 6-foot-8 small forward Damien Inglis, with the first pick in the second round, 31st overall. They followed up with 6-9 LSU forward Johnny O’Bryant III with the 36th pick and Pittsburgh shooting guard Lamar Patterson with the 48th pick. The Bucks then traded Patterson to the Atlanta Hawks and will receive a 2015 second-round pick from Brooklyn.
The Hornets will hold another workout Wednesday that will include P.J. Hairston from North Carolina, Andre Dawkins from Duke and K.J. McDaniels from Clemson. Others scheduled to participate: Jabari Brown (Missouri), Drew Crawford (Northwestern), Lamar Patterson (Pittsburgh) and Scott Wilbekin (Florida). Wilbekin was also scheduled to work out Tuesday in Charlotte.
