Lindsey Hunter is remembered for his contributions to “Deee-troit Basketball” during the previous couple decades, including the Pistons’ most recent NBA championship in 2004. Turns out, that wasn’t the last time “Deee-troit” will be hearing from him. Per the Detroit Sports 105.1 website, Hunter will join program director Dave Shore in the drive-time slot for the Hunter & Shore show starting today. The show will run from 2-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays on WMGC-FM. Hunter and Shore take over the time slot previously held by Matt Dery and Drew Sharp and their Dery & Sharp show.
As today’s news was breaking, I was told by a Warriors source that circumstances of Erman’s dismissal are “very, very unfortunate” and made it sound like an isolated incident, but the source also didn’t argue that everything that happens now is against the backdrop of a lot of coach/management tension. Everything is part of the larger story, and it all points to this: The Warriors are not going into the playoffs at full strength and Jackson’s tenure will be judged largely based on the team’s perceived success or failure in these playoffs. After the Erman firing, the Warriors are down to three holdover assistants — Pete Myers, Lindsey Hunter, Ernie DeGregorio — and now development assistant Joe Boylan presumably will move into an official assistant role. (Boylan did the halftime TV interview last night, a virtual kiss of death lately for Jackson assistants.)

The Golden State Warriors have hired Lindsey Hunter as an assistant coach on Head Coach Mark Jackson’s staff, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced. Hunter comes to the Warriors after completing the 2012-13 campaign as the interim head coach of the Phoenix Suns, where he compiled a 12-29 record at the helm. Prior to being elevated to interim head coach, Hunter served as the Suns’ player development coordinator, having originally joined the team’s scouting department in 2012.
