Radoslav Nesterovic has announced his retirement from professional basketball from Lithuania, where he is currently, as an advisor of Slovenia NT, Slovenian website siol.net reports. He made the announcement talking to reporters, where he stated: “I believe my basketball career has ended. It’s enough. I’ve had a 17 years long professional basketball career. My latest injury has nothing to do with this decision. This was a personal decision. Basically I can’t function as I did in the past, anymore. If I can’t be at my 100% as a l player, I would rather do something else at the fullest.”
Rasho Nesterovic is close to leave Olympiacos after one season. The Greek team won’t extend the contract of the big man, although they have an option to do it until 15th of July. If Olympiacos exercises the clause, the team has to pay to Nesterovic €1.3M next season. Nesterovic returned back to Europe after several seasons in NBA but did not impress with his performances. The center also suffered an arm injury which slowed him down in the second part of the season.
As expected, Olympiakos has officially announced the signing of Rasho Nesterovic to a two-year contract. The 34-year-old Slovenian center is back to Europe after playing since 1999 in the NBA. In the last season, Nesterovic averaged 3.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in his second stint with the Toronto Raptors.
Rasho Nesterovic, after 12 years of NBA is closer to returning in Europe and signing with Olympiacos. But, with the Greek powerhouse, he will play as Slovenian (Nesterovic) and not as Greek (Makris). If he plays with his Greek passport and last name, Makris, he would be obliged to go to the army To prevent this, Reds will sign him as foreign player.
