Hibbert had little to say about his scuffle with Jazz forward Trevor Booker. But compared to his adversary, Hibbert was downright voluble. Booker, who was ejected, did not address the media. The play, which occurred in the third quarter, came about after Randle fouled Booker and Booker retaliated with a push. Hibbert, in turn, came after Booker. “We play together,” Hibbert said. “I’m not going to speak too much about that play. Like I said, (Randle’s) the face of this team for the future and, one through 15, I’d step up for anybody, anybody in the starting five to the guys at the end of the bench. We play as a team and I have everybody’s back.”
Andy Larsen: Trevor Booker broke his nose Tuesday at a pickup game at ZBBC. He chose not to tell me which player’s elbow it was that broke his nose. His surgery went well, and though it was still draining a little today, he says he’ll be fine to start playing basketball next week. The publicity for the event really helped in terms of donations. They haven’t counted yet, but it’s many more cereal boxes than last year.
The Players Association also hosted a leadership program, which was a crash course for several current players, including Matt Bonner, Trevor Booker and Dahntay Jones, to learn the business side of the game for future employment. During the summer league games, they scouted players, filed reports, interacted with GMs and participated in a mock draft. “You get different perspective on what goes on behind the scenes with the draft,” Jones said. “You get to talk candidly with people who are making these decisions, what the process is for that decision, what goes into each pick, what are the steps to acquire a pick, how long it takes to make a decision on your pick and learning the CBA.”
