Indiana Pacers

ADDITIONS:
DJ Augustin (Charlotte), Gerald Green (Brooklyn), Ben Hansbrough (Krka Novo Mesto), Ian Mahinmi (Dallas), Miles Plumlee (Duke) and Sam Young (Philadelphia).

SUBTRACTIONS:
Louis Amundson (Minnesota), Leandro Barbosa (Boston), Darren Collison (Dallas), Kyrylo FesenkoDahntay Jones (Dallas) and AJ Price (Washington).

STRENGTHS:
The Pacers have one of the best starting lineups in the Eastern Conference ... Indiana is a strong defensive team that has the ability to improve after finishing 10th in the NBA in points allowed ... George Hill and Paul George provide the Pacers with a solid defensive backcourt ... The Pacers have a strong interior defense, led by center Roy Hibbert ... Starting forwards Danny Granger and David West have games that complement each other, with Granger effective driving to the basket and West a key inside scorer ... George looks like a potential All-Star ... One reason the Pacers have won so many close games is because they are an excellent free-throw shooting team, tied for third in the NBA last season ... Strong rebounding squad ... An underrated free agent signing who could help the offense is swingman Gerald Green, among the NBA’s better athletes ... Few teams play as hard as the Pacers, a credit to coach Frank Vogel ...

WEAKNESSES:
Indiana needs better scoring depth off the bench ... Among the reserves needing to pick it up are new backup point DJ Augustin and Tyler Hansbrough, who both strive for more consistency ... Due to Indiana’s lack of firepower off the bench, the Pacers are just a middle-of-the road offensive team ... Hill, who had a 2.9 to 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio in the playoffs, has to do a better job creating for his teammates ... Indiana is just an average three-point shooting team ... The Pacers aren’t a major offensive threat at center with Hibbert and new backup Ian Mahinmi needing to evolve offensively ... Indiana often struggles in half-court settings and is prone to taking bad shots.

PROJECTION:
1st in the Central Division / 4th in the Eastern Conference

PROJECTED STARTERS
PG: George Hill Jason Richardson SG: Paul George Andrei Kirilenko SF: Danny Granger
Hill is not the best at creating for others, but can score and defend. Very good size and athleticism for the position. Elite athleticism and good work ethic? That combination usually leads to stardom. Efficient two-way player that will continue to grow. Percentages get worse every year. Must take better (and probably fewer) shots. Very good rebounder at the small forward spot.
Yi Jianlian PF: David West C: Roy Hibbert Sixth: DJ Augustin
Not just a very skilled big man, but also a leader for ths team. His experience is a very valuable asset for the Pacers. A force to be reckoned with in the paint. Has improved every year in the league. Should be a bigger part of the team's offense. Left basketball Siberia for a club that will actually play for something. Has to be more assertive and improve shooting percentages.
