New York Knicks

ADDITIONS:
Oscar Bellfield (Nevada-Las Vegas), Ronnie Brewer (Chicago), Marcus Camby (Houston), Chris Copeland (Aalstar), Raymond Felton (Portland), Jason Kidd (Dallas), Pablo Prigioni (Caja Laboral), John Shurna (Northwestern), Henry Sims (Georgetown), Kurt Thomas (Portland), Mychel Thompson (Erie BayHawks) and James White (Kansas).

SUBTRACTIONS:
Toney Douglas (Houston), Landry Fields (Toronto), Dan GadzuricJosh Harrellson (Miami), Jared Jeffries (Portland), Jerome Jordan and Jeremy Lin (Houston).

STRENGTHS:
In Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby, the Knicks have the best defensive center tandem in the NBA ... After only one season Iman Shumpert showed he is a top defender, although he is coming off knee surgery ... Coach Mike Woodson has brought a defensive mentality to this group ... This is a diversified offense that can score in transition or in the half-court ... Carmelo Anthony remains and elite scorer and JR Smith has deep range and can take it to the basket with authority, adding to the variety of ways the Knicks can attack teams ... Amare Stoudemire, while not the low-post threat he once was, gives the Knicks another viable offensive option ... When Jeremy Lin was hurt the Knicks struggled at point guard and have to hope Raymond Felton can enjoy the same success in his second tenure with the Knicks after a disappointing season last year with Portland.

WEAKNESSES:
The Knicks committed the second largest number of turnovers per game and Felton’s biggest responsibility will be to help the team cut this total down ... Even with Steve Novak leading the NBA in three-point field goal percentage, the Knicks are a below average shooting team from beyond the arc ... New York is also a below average free throw shooting team ... The projected starting lineup has the potential to be a strong offensive unit, but where are the points coming from off the bench? ... Reserves such as Jason Kidd, Camby and Ronnie Brewer bring plenty of veteran savvy, but all are past their days as consistent scorers ... Camby should help a Knicks team that has been a subpar rebounding unit ... A goal should be better shot selection with Anthony and Smith the two most guilty parties.

PROJECTION:
3rd in the Atlantic Division / 6th in the Eastern Conference

PROJECTED STARTERS
Rajon Rondo PG: Raymond Felton Allen Iverson SG: Ronnie Brewer Andrei Kirilenko SF: Carmelo Anthony
Which Raymond Felton will show up in New York? It it's anything close to the 2010-11 version, that will be great news for the Knicks. Serviceable role player that plays with effort and runs the floor well. The starting position should be Iman Shumpert's eventually. Comes off an awesome performance at the Olympics. Terrific scorer that has to learn to play within a team concept in the NBA.
Yi Jianlian PF: Amare Stoudemire C: Tyson Chandler Sixth: JR Smith
Clearly the No. 2 option since Carmelo Anthony's arrival. Great offensive repertoire. How much athleticism left? Last's season's Defensive Player of the Year. The lone active player to win NBA, World and Olympic titles. Never met a shot he didn't like. Dangerous when he gets hot. Has plenty of baggage. Can he stay focused in New York?
