HoopsHype.com Rookie Watch
by HoopsHype / Updated: December 30, 2006

Adam Morrison 1. Adam Morrison 6-8 SF Charlotte / Rookie of the Month: 1
Statistics: 13.1 ppg, 2.1 apg, 3.0 rpg, 33.9 3P%

Tops all first-year players in scoring, assists and steals and has been way out ahead of the pack in the Rookie of the Year race for weeks. Will he able to lead the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets to an unexpected playoff berth?

2. Brandon Roy 6-6 SG Portland
Statistics: 12.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.2 apg, 40.4 FG%
If he stays grounded and improves the effort, watch out. Villanueva certainly has the makings of a star.
3. Andrea Bargnani 6-11 PF Toronto
Statistics: 9.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.9 bpg, 40.4 FG%
Can score, rebound and pass the ball like few other centers. Pretty solid season for the Aussie rookie in Milwaukee.
4. Jorge Garbajosa 6-9 PF Toronto
Statistics: 9.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.1 apg, 43.1 FG%
Although not the solution for New York's lack of defensive toughness, Frye has at least displayed nice offensive skills in his rookie year.
5. Rudy Gay 6-9 SF Memphis / Rookie of the Month: 1
Statistics: 8.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.0 spg, 38.4 FG%
Unlike his play as of late, his car accident was just something minor.
6. Randy Foye 6-4 PG Minnesota
Statistics: 7.7 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 1.7 apg, 44.3 FG%
Williams is playing his best basketball of the season right now. Even mercurial Jazz owner Larry Miller has commended him.
7. Craig Smith 6-7 SF Minnesota
Statistics: 7.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.8 spg, 54.4 FG%
The 6-foot-8 forward has been showing glimpses of his all-around game the last few weeks. He's even had three 20 and 10 games.
8. Marcus Williams 6-2 PG New Jersey
Statistics: 6.8 ppg, 2.8 apg, 0.4 spg, 39.5 FG%
Not as effective playing off the ball as Rick Carlisle probably expected. Hardly a brilliant rookie season for the European vet.
9. Alexander Johnson 6-9 PF Memphis
Statistics: 6.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 62.3 FG%
Has been on a tear ever since he started getting serious playing time. You can question Danny Ainge's signings, but not his drafting.
10. Paul Millsap 6-8 PF Utah
Statistics: 7.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 0.63 spg, 42.9 FG%
Has started to resemble the player the Hawks thought they were getting in the last few weeks.
11. LaMarcus Aldridge 6-11 PF Portland
Statistics: 6.4 ppg, 3.9 apg, 0.8 bpg, 49.6 FG%
Foot problems are constantly bothering the Spanish point guard. Has score in double digits only three times in 2006.
12. Shelden Williams 6-9 C Atlanta
Statistics: 6.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 0.7 bpg, 44.5 FG%
The Arizona product is living up to his reputation as a great shooter on the court and tough guy to deal with off it.
13. Jordan Farmar 6-2 PG LA Lakers
Statistics: 5.9 ppg, 2.5 apg, 1.6 rpg, 47.8 FG%
Back playing a lot of minutes since injury problems sidelined Tracy McGrady again.
14. Yakhouba Diawara 6-7 SF Denver
Statistics: 5.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.1 apg, 35.6 FG%
He's undeniably talented and energetic, but Robinson really needs to improve decision-making.
15. Kyle Lowry 6-0 PG Memphis
Statistics: 5.6 ppg, 3.2 apg, 1.4 spg, 36.8 FG%
No longer in the playoff race, the Warriors should get promising rookie Ike Diogu more playing time.
