Kings coach Dave Joerger said Wednesday the team has no timetable from the NBA regarding the announcement of a possible suspension for guard Darren Collison. Collison pleaded guilty this month to one misdemeanor charge of domestic battery after a May incident at his Granite Bay home involving his wife. He received three years of informal probation and a 20-day sentence in the Placer County jail. The probation department can allow him to serve his jail time through an alternative sentencing program. On the second day of two-a-day practices at training camp, Joerger said the uncertainty is not affecting the team’s preparation at this point.
A shoulder injury limited Noah to 29 games last season. In fact, he’s missed a total of 68 games the last two years. Many league executives feel the Knicks took too big of a risk for a player who, because of his shoulder and leg injuries, no longer has the lateral movement to make an impact defensively. Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said the team decided not to re-sign Noah because he’s no longer “a front line player.” “He’s entitled to his opinion,’’ Noah said. “I feel I have no regrets about my time in Chicago. I gave it everything I had. To me that’s all that matters.
Three are no-brainers — Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan and Jonas Valanciunas are locks — and if DeMarre Carroll remains healthy, he’s the fourth sure thing. But when it comes to the fifth, things are a bit cloudy between Jared Sullinger and Patrick Patterson. “I would say Sullinger is the guy now that it would be his to lose, but I reserve the right to change my mind,” Casey said, citing the need to see how that group reacts defensively.
Speaking of McDermott, Wade singled out the third-year forward for his play early in camp. “Not only the way he shoots the ball and how fast he shoots it, but the way he puts the ball on the floor as well shows his athletic ability,” Wade said. “Just by playing against him and now seeing his confidence in his game, the kid’s tough.” Wade said McDermott has been used at three positions thus far — shooting guard, small forward and power forward.
