The Houston Rockets have scheduled interviews with former Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek and Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Stephen Silas, sources told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
The Rockets have scheduled a meeting with former Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, a person with knowledge of the talks said on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the coaching search.
Dimissing Vogel is Bird’s prerogative, but, hey, come on, do it with some class, huh? Letting Vogel twist in the wind for days was embarrassing, and it didn’t go unnoticed. “So [expletive] up,” a head coach told The Vertical. “Complete garbage,” said a high-ranking NBA executive. “You want to go in a different direction, do it with some dignity.”
The Donovan-Vogel-Pitino connections are clear, plus the Thunder’s lead assistant coaching position is still in flux headed into next season. Thunder lead assistant Monty Williams is not expected to be with the Thunder coaching staff going into 2016-17 following the death of his wife, Ingrid, in February. “I think Frank is an outstanding coach,” Donovan said. “He’s a great guy. I’ve got a good relationship with him. “I don’t know all the dynamics there (in Indiana), but I’ve got all the respect for him and I’ve always had a really good relationship with him through the years because of our ties and both of us working for Coach Pitino.”
“It’s my time,” said Bibby, who will interview with the Kings on Monday as they continue their wide-ranging search for a coach to replace George Karl. Karl was fired after the Kings’ 33-49 record this season fell short of general manager Vlade Divac’s playoff expectations.
Henry Bibby said he and Mike asked Divac to give the father an interview with the Kings, believing he could help turn the team around. “I never got the break,” Bibby, whose last NBA coaching job was as a Detroit Pistons assistant in 2014, said about never being a head coach in the league. “And this business, it’s all connections.”
