"Muss wanted to bring me in so I said I'd come. I thought about it for a while and figured it can't hurt anything," Simmons said. "NBA teams are still watching and guys get called up from here all the time. The opportunity to still play is there. That's the main thing that brought me here. "A lot of guys sit at home and work out and wait for the call from an NBA team. But there's only so long you want to wait before you take the challenge and decide to either sit around and wait or to do something about it." Reno Gazette-Journal

According to a source close to the situation, NBA veteran Bobby Simmons has signed a D-League contract and will be claimed by the Reno Bighorns once he clears waivers on Wednesday. Simmons, a nine-year NBA veteran, began this season with the San Antonio Spurs but was waived after just two games in favor of Chris Quinn and hasn't played professionally since. The 30-year-old wing didn't score in his 16 minutes of action this season. Ridiculous Upside

Veteran guard Chris Quinn was added to the Spurs roster Friday afternoon. He will replace Bobby Simmons, who was placed on waivers. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said that the 6-foot-2 Quinn’s experience and shooting ability made him an intriguing addition. Popovich also said the move of adding Quinn on a non-guaranteed contract isn’t necessarily related to Simmons’ waiving. “It’s not a tit-for-tat situation,” Popovich said. “You make a mistake when you think one is for the other.” San Antonio Express-News

The Spurs have released their finalized training camp roster, although there's a good chance even the "finalized" version isn't final. The most intriguing name on the list is Bobby Simmons. He is intriguing because A) he's got eight seasons of NBA experience on his resume; and B) He plays a position (small forward) at which the Spurs are alarmingly thin. San Antonio Express-News
