They both opened the season with minutes restrictions aimed at keeping them healthy for the long haul with the Knicks, but Amar’e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin now will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. The two veteran forwards both sustained ankle injuries during Thursday’s blowout loss in Indiana. Stoudemire suffered what an MRI revealed was a sprained left ankle and a bone bruise, while Martin’s MRI also showed a sprain and tendinitis in the ankle that has hampered him since late last season., “They're gonna be out at least two weeks, both players,” Mike Woodson said before the Knicks opened an eight-game home stand Friday against the Clippers. The New York Knicks lost key frontcourt reserves Kenyon Martin and Amar'e Stoudemire to injuries during Thursday night's game against the Indiana Pacers. Martin sprained his troublesome left ankle early in the second quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. He appeared to collide with Pacers guard Lance Stephenson and checked out with 9:41 remaining in the period. A trainer attended to Martin as he walked back to the locker room. Stoudemire sprained his left ankle on a drive with 4:27 remaining in the third quarter. Stoudemire stayed down for about a minute as six teammates and coach Mike Woodson went over to the far corner of the court from the Knicks bench to check on him. ESPN.com

Kenyon Martin is also an outspoken supporter of Smith; they were close in Denver. “It’s a stupid joke that went too far,’’ Martin said. “Everybody made a big deal of it and the league jumps on it. It’s an unfortunate situation. I hate to see someone lose his hard-earned money and can’t help his team win. J.R.’s a big part of this team. And he’s going to be a big part of this team from here on out.’’ New York Post

It sounds like the Knicks will be without big man Kenyon Martin for a while. Mike Woodson said before Saturday's game that Martin will be sidelined for "a little bit" due to an abdominal injury he suffered on Friday. The coach did not receive an official diagnosis from the team's medical staff as of Saturday evening. "I know he's going to be out a little bit. I don't know how many weeks or days it's actually going to be," Woodson said. "They still are assessing him right now and seeing the severity of it so we'll have to just wait and see." ESPN.com

Also, there was a report of Kenyon Martin and Metta World Peace getting into a heated argument during Sunday’s morning practice. Such scenes are not uncommon. In fact, it was standard operating procedure when Pat Riley and Jeff Van Gundy coached the Knicks. But when a team has lost nine straight games it gives off the perception that the head coach is losing control of the team. “It’s all bull,” Martin said. New York Daily News
