Mike James is back from the sprained MCL in his right knee that sidelined him the last two games. James had supplanted Marquis Teague as Kirk Hinrich's backup before his injury. Thibodeau wouldn't say who will backup Hinrich, but Teague is expected to get the nod because James may not be fully healthy. Chicago Tribune

In a mild surprise, the Bulls early in the day assigned second-year point guard Marquis Teague to the Iowa Energy, their Development League affiliate. But sources said Teague got recalled before landing because an MRI revealed veteran point guard Mike James suffered a sprained MCL before Monday's triple overtime loss to the Pelicans. James still gritted out 10 minutes. Chicago Tribune

Expect guard Mike James or perhaps center Dexter Pittman to land the 13th roster spot. "It's not just what's being done in the games. It's what done in practice," Thibodeau said. "And it's also us having a better understanding of what our greater need will be. I think we're getting some of those answers by the guys who are playing. It's telling us something." Chicago Tribune

After a resurgent campaign, free agent guard Mike James has been elevating his fitness and has received interest out of a few NBA teams, staying confident about signing with a franchise ahead of training camp for his 12th season. “The expectation is he will sign, he deserves it and so we will see how it shakes out,” James’ agent, Bernie Lee, told RealGM. “Mike simply wants an opportunity like everyone else to prove his worth. One thing Mike has shown over the last few years is he has nothing to hide and he will play for opportunities.” RealGM

The Mavericks expressed interest in James on the first day of free agency and discussions with the organization are ongoing. Dallas went 16-7 in the games James started last season. Down to his weight as a rookie, James believes he can play a significant role or help mentor younger guards. “Every time Mike has been asked to show something over the last two years, he’s stepped up,” Lee said. “When given the opportunity, he will do so again.” RealGM
