The Bulls called James up from the Erie BayHawks in January when Rose suffered a toe injury and are planning to sign the 36-year-old to a 10-day contract as early as Tuesday, sources said. Rose is out of Tuesday night's game against the Sacramento Kings and listed as day-to-day because of his back issues. Erie is the New York Knicks' D-League affiliate and sources said that New York strongly considered replacing second-year sensation Jeremy Lin with James earlier this month before Lin erupted for 25 points in a win over New Jersey after never having scored more than 13 points in an NBA Game. ESPN.com According to multiple sources, the Bulls will re-sign veteran point guard Mike James, who wasn’t at Tuesday’s shootaround but is expected to be in uniform against the Kings. James was first signed by the team on Jan 11 when Rose sat out with a toe injury and C.J. Watson was rehabbing from an elbow injury. Sources told Stein that the Knicks, given Lin's unguaranteed contract, were leaning toward releasing him before Tuesday's 6 p.m. deadline and had begun targeting replacement point guards to take Lin's roster spot, with veteran guard Mike James from their affiliate in the D- League (Erie BayHawks) chief among them. But after Lin's 53 points combined against New Jersey on Saturday and Monday, New York scrapped its plans, with Lin's contract becoming guaranteed for the rest of the season when Tuesday night's deadline passed. The move drops the roster to 13, which means a reserve big man could be added at some point. General manager Gar Forman alluded possibly to doing so as far back as training camp. Leon Powe and Joel Przybilla are two players the Bulls have considered signing. The Bulls also typically like to keep roster and financial flexibility approaching the trade deadline, which is March 15 this season. Sources said the Bulls haven't ruled out bringing James back after that deadline if the roster is still at 13. Chicago Tribune |

![]() Before Wednesday’s contest, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said Rose’s injury was more of a sprain than turf toe. “Hopefully he’ll be back in a day,” Thibodeau said. “They said it’s a sprain, different from turf toe. It’s day to day and it’s when the pain subsides where he can play.” As a precaution, the Bulls also signed veteran guard Mike James from the D-League on Wednesday. James arrived from Erie, Pa., right around game time, made it to the bench late in the first quarter and played the final 40 seconds. Arlington Heights Daily Herald Chris Paul: Happy for my homie @mikejames7 with the Bulls!!! Gr8 dude w/a beautiful family...if ONLY he had a jumpshot and some handles haaaa! #Respect. Twitter |

The Jiangsu Dragons’ Ricky Davis and the Zhejiang Golden Bulls’ Mike James are no strangers to each other on the court, having faced off against each other for years in the NBA. After going against each other for the first time in China on Sunday, they might have played as opponents for the last. According to a source speaking anonymously to NiuBBall.com, Zhejiang Chouzhou and Jiangsu are both set to cut their high-profile imports by the end of the week. NiuBBall.com Zhejiang will release James within the next couple of days and replace him with former San Antonio Spurs draftee, Marcus Williams. Williams is scheduled to arrive in China by tomorrow and is probable to suit up on Friday against Shanxi. The 6-3 guard played 30 games with Chouzhou last year after being waived by the Spurs in October, averaging 19.7 points and 11.2 rebounds. But, James is not the only NBA veteran to be on the way out after just two weeks into the season. According to the same source, Jiangsu’s Davis is also on the way out after the team has privately started a search for a replacement import guard. Davis, averaging a dissapointing 14.9 points a game, has already expressed displeasure with his teammates and with his role on the team. Davis wasn’t in the starting lineup on Sunday’s win against Chouzhou, playing only 21 minutes and scoring 7 points on 3-9 shooting. NiuBBall.com |
