The Bulls signed guard Mike James for the remainder of the season. It's James' fourth stint and would have happened even if Rose and C.J. Watson were fully healthy, sources said. "We liked what he brought to our team before," Thibodeau said. "He gives us the flexibility to play two point guards. He has size, veteran experience. He knows what we're doing, is good insurance." No and no. Thibodeau was talking about Mike James. It’s likely, unless another team snatches him up first, that the Bulls re-acquire the 36-year-old point guard later this month, along with a bargain-priced veteran backup big man. Something more significant is unlikely to occur. “When you study personnel, you also study the make-up of the players and can they fit in. Our management’s going to study what’s available and as I mentioned before, if we don’t do anything, we feel very good about the people that we have,” he said. “[Thibodeau and the Bulls’ front office] talk every day. Their job is to study the league, field calls and often times, if you have a good team, you have good players, people want them, they call. That doesn’t mean we’re going to do anything. We listen and if we think it can make the team better, we’ll consider it. If not, we’re more than happy with the roster that we have. We feel very good about that.” CSN Chicago

Tom Thibodeau announced at Bulls shoot around this morning that the team has released backup point guard Mike James. James has served two stints with the Bulls this season, most recently signing a 10-day contract in the wake of Derrick Rose's back injury. Chicago Sun-Times

His best game came in a Feb. 18 loss to the New Jersey Nets when he had 16 points and seven assists. Thibodeau did not rule out the possibility of James returning to the Bulls later this season. "There's always that chance," Thibodeau said. "I think the one thing he did a great job for us in both stints. The one thing: Mike stays ready. You can count on that part and then if there's the need, we wouldn't hesitate to bring him back." Chicago Sun-Times

The Chicago Bulls are bringing veteran guard Mike James back from the D-League to help them get through Derrick Rose's back injury, according to sources with knowledge of the move. ESPN.com

The Bulls called James up from the Erie BayHawks in January when Rose suffered a toe injury and are planning to sign the 36-year-old to a 10-day contract as early as Tuesday, sources said. Rose is out of Tuesday night's game against the Sacramento Kings and listed as day-to-day because of his back issues. Erie is the New York Knicks' D-League affiliate and sources said that New York strongly considered replacing second-year sensation Jeremy Lin with James earlier this month before Lin erupted for 25 points in a win over New Jersey after never having scored more than 13 points in an NBA Game. According to multiple sources, the Bulls will re-sign veteran point guard Mike James, who wasn’t at Tuesday’s shootaround but is expected to be in uniform against the Kings. James was first signed by the team on Jan 11 when Rose sat out with a toe injury and C.J. Watson was rehabbing from an elbow injury. CSN Chicago

Marc Stein: Sources say Mike James to get 10-day deal from Bulls. They brought him up from Erie BayHawks last month as well when D-Rose had toe injury Twitter

Sources told Stein that the Knicks, given Lin's unguaranteed contract, were leaning toward releasing him before Tuesday's 6 p.m. deadline and had begun targeting replacement point guards to take Lin's roster spot, with veteran guard Mike James from their affiliate in the D- League (Erie BayHawks) chief among them. But after Lin's 53 points combined against New Jersey on Saturday and Monday, New York scrapped its plans, with Lin's contract becoming guaranteed for the rest of the season when Tuesday night's deadline passed.
