Kings guard Aaron Brooks was fined $25,000 by the NBA for throwing his mouthpiece into the stands after the Kings lost at Utah on Friday. The fine was announced Monday after the Kings' media availability, so Brooks was not available for comment. Brooks was frustrated after the Kings blew a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter and fell 104-102. He thought he was fouled by Jamaal Tinsley on a drive with 14.9 seconds to play, but there was no call, and Tinsley was credited with a steal. Sacramento Bee

Sounds as if Keith Smart's hope his team would bond in the offseason is happening. Ten of the players on the roster are in Sacramento working out and playing 5-on-5. The only players that could not be in town are John Salmons, James Johnson, Chuck Hayes and Francisco Garcia. It's important that young nucleus that the franchise is depending on (DeMarcus Cousins, Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton) is in town. Also have to like that new PG Aaron Brooks is getting to know his new teammates. Definitely a step in the right direction and something that's needed to build team chemistry. Sulia

Fredette insisted that he didn't play with any added motivation because of the team's decision to add another point guard to the mix, even if it does put him behind Brooks and Isaiah Thomas entering next season and qualify as the latest setback to an already frustrating start to his career. The obvious impact of the move could be spotted in the stands Monday during the Kings game, where Fredette's agent, Jeff Austin, was seen discussing the unexpected situation with Geoff Petrie, Sacramento's president of basketball operations, for nearly a half hour. They had been in talks with free agent small forward Terrence Williams, but a source with knowledge of the team's plans said he is no longer part of the Kings' future. The addition of Brooks came just hours after the team announced the addition of small forward James Johnson, who was acquired from Toronto for a second-round pick. SI.com

The Kings added another point guard Monday with the acquisition of free agent Aaron Brooks, in what could potentially mean even less playing time for Fredette. Jimmer sent a “don’t forget about me” message to the franchise just minutes after word of the trade came down, scoring 30 points Monday in a 113-91 loss to the Rockets, but says his big game had nothing to do with proving his worth. “Coach just told me to be really aggressive and shoot the ball, so that’s what I did,” said Fredette, who put up 21 shots (hitting 10, including two 3s). #NBAKings reach agreement in principle with Aaron Brooks. Quote from Kings Pres Geoff Petrie via press release - “We’re really excited about the prospect of Aaron joining the team,” said Petrie. “The fact that he’s chosen to play for the Kings makes us feel good about what he’ll be able to provide to us on the court. Aaron’s another young player who brings a lot of speed, quickness, experience and scoring ability.” Sulia
