The Toronto Raptors announced Friday they have re-signed centre Aaron Gray. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed. Gray averaged 3.9 points, with career bests of 5.7 rebounds (third on team) and 16.6 minutes in 49 games with the Raptors last season. He started 40 contests, averaging 4.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 17.4 minutes. Gray finished the season second on the club in field goal percentage at .516 (83-161). He paced the team in rebounding 11 times, with six 10-plus rebound efforts, and recorded two double-doubles. He posted season highs with 12 points and 12 rebounds February 22 versus Detroit. NBA.com

The Toronto Raptors announced Monday centre Aaron Gray underwent an ablation procedure today to correct his reoccurring episodes of a rapid heart rate. The procedure was performed at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital by Dr. Jaspal Singh and Dr. Eugene Crystal. It is anticipated Gray will be able to return to the court within two weeks. Gray, a four-year NBA veteran, was signed December 11 as a free-agent. He appeared in two preseason games, totaling nine rebounds in 32 minutes. NBA.com

The New Orleans Hornets are a player in the recruitment of free-agent shooting guard Jamal Crawford, and have expressed a keen desire to re-sign 7-foot center Aaron Gray, the players' agent said Tuesday morning. Andy Miller, who represents both, said he has been in contact with Hornets general manager Dell Demps but was said said Demps had not yet spoken yet with Crawford. New Orleans Times-Picayune

With forward David West and reserve center Aaron Gray opting for free agency this week, the Hornets have only five players under contract and have until the end of Thursday to make a decision on whether to extend qualifying offers to restricted free agents Marco Belinelli and Jason Smith. Paul says his heart is in New Orleans but that he wants to win, so he hopes the Hornets will be able to revamp the roster with some top players. The New Orleans Hornets lost another player to unrestricted free agency Monday afternoon when backup center Aaron Gray informed the team he was opting out of the last year of his contract. Gray stood to earn $1.06 million next season if he had picked up his option, Earlier in the day, the Hornets lost veteran power forward David West, who decided to walk away from the last year of his contract. "I think he really enjoyed being with New Orleans, the opportunity to come free made it a good time to explore the market for him," said Jason Zanik, one of Gray's representatives, who added that Gray isn't concerned about the uncertainty of the NBA's labor situation. Zanik said the Hornets did not give Gray any indication he would not be in their plans this year. Gray had a huge impact in the Hornets' first-round playoff series against the Lakers, especially in Game 1 when he had a double-double off the bench. But he also sustained a sprained ankle which hindered his efforts in the final five games of the series.
