Nick Calathes’ contract with Panathinaikos ended, he is a free agent and he will try his best in order to get a roster spot in Dallas. That should be the natural evolution for him, since the Mavs got his NBA rights, but one more player from the Greek finals can end up in their roster, Acie Law of Olympiacos. Those two are very different cases. Calathes is a 23 years old player, who believes that he learned all he could from European basketball and now feels that it’s the right time for him to try and achieve his childhood dream of playing in the NBA. He will play for the Greek national team at the FIBA Pre-Olympic tournament, but he wants also to be present at the Las Vegas summer league and will chase his dream, something that can be done if Greece doesn’t qualify to London. Trailing by 19 points midway through the third quarter, Olympiakos looked doomed before Law took centre stage and inspired the stunning comeback with steely defense on CSKA's Serbian point guard Milos Teodosic. "Law is the unsung hero of our success because after the semi-final win over Barcelona on Friday, his ankle was in such a bad shape he couldn't walk down the stairs from his hotel room for meals," Olympiakos coach Dusan Ivkovic said. "He played through the pain and was instrumental in the fightback because CSKA's offence was ground to a halt when he came off the bench," said the 68-year old Serb who also coaches his country's national team. Chicago Tribune "I am a European champion, I feel like I am on the top of the world now and no one can take that away from me," the 27-year-old told Reuters with a broad smile on his face after lifting the trophy. "It's something everyone has to respect and it will stay in my biography forever. "After the Partizan experience, I didn't know how I would fit in at Olympiakos but the coach made it easy for me because he is an expert in bringing the best out of players. "I knew Olympiakos was a talented team and the staff did a great job putting the pieces together." Chicago Tribune |

![]() Point guard Acie Law, who played for five NBA teams, joined Serbian champions Partizan Belgrade in July and was stunned by the passion of the fans on opening night on Thursday. "I've never seen anything like it, you don't see fans like that in the United States," Law told Reuters after Partizan's 84-73 home loss to Anadolu Efes istanbul. ![]() Like other NBA players who have stated interest in playing basketball overseas, Law and Jack have considered other options if the lockout continues into the regular season. "I understand why a lot of guys are considering overseas," Law said. "I'm considering some options overseas. These are our livelihoods. This is how we feed our families, and guys want to play. If they're not going to negotiate a deal, life goes on. Bills still coming in, we still have to provide for our families, so hopefully they get something worked out." ESPN.com Jack didn't rule out the possibility of playing overseas. "It's possible, anything is possible," Jack said. "You've got to look at the situation really. Do your proper research and due diligence and see what works best for you individually. "I don't like to sit still, regardless of the current situation with the labor agreement, I play basketball non-stop anyway. This is just me. It's what I do." ESPN.com Golden State Warriors guard Acie Law got dinged up during a local basketball tournament Sunday. Law collided knees with another player during the 24th annual Dallas Fed X Pro-Am Basketball Classic. "I didn't want to keep playing with the situation in the NBA and then have something small like this grow into something big," Law said. ESPN.com |
