If the Orlando Magic needed any additional proof that power forwards Glen Davis and Al Harrington progressing in their return from injuries, Davis and Harrington provided that evidence Sunday afternoon. Davis and Harrington joined the Magic in Washington and participated in portions of practice at Verizon Center. It was the first time this season all 15 players on the roster have attended a practice on the road. It’s unclear whether Davis will play Monday night against the Washington Wizards, and Harrington is at least a couple of weeks away from playing in a game. Orlando Sentinel

Al wants to play. Al wants to return and the Magic are trying to help him achieve that. If Al does not play for 41 games the NBA’s insurance carrier picks up 80% of his contract money, so there is no real hurry to do anything with Al, but give him a chance to get better. If he gets better and can play, maybe they can trade him… if he doesn’t or struggles to get into game shape, then insurance eats the bulk of his deal. HoopsWorld

Although he acknowledges he's a ways away from playing in a game, Orlando Magic power forward Al Harrington appears to be making significant progress in his return from a staph infection in his right knee. Harrington ran a bit up and down the court and did some light jumping Monday at Amway Center in a post-practice shooting session that lasted about 30 minutes. “That was a big step for me,” Harrington said afterward, drenched with sweat. On Dec. 17, a basketball-themed Internet site reported, via Twitter, that Harrington was “likely out for the year” and that “medical retirement” maybe was a possibility. When Harrington was informed of the tweet, he sent out a message of his own saying the report was false. “I just wanted to get it out there I’m working too hard to retire,” he explained Monday. “I’m putting in three hours a day on my knee in here with the team, and then I do some stuff at night. So, I’m putting in all the effort I can to get out there as soon as possible. I don’t even know how to spell retirement.” Orlando Sentinel

For three weeks, Harrington rehabilitated his right knee at The Steadman Clinic, continuing a long, arduous road back from a staph infection in one of his joint. As his new Orlando Magic teammates often struggled, Harrington watched their games from start to finish at a restaurant in Vail Village. "It's been tough," Harrington said. "I've been hurt before, but I've never been hurt in the beginning of a season. I've played in every home opener my whole career. "The fact that I'm not playing yet is just frustrating for me, because I know how much I could help this team, and I just love to play the game of basketball. For me, this is the greatest job in the world. It's just eating me up that I can't go out there and compete with my teammates." Orlando Sentinel

Sources near the Magic deny that Al Harrington was a throw-in in the Dwight Howard trade. There is a belief that Al could be a good locker room influence on Orlando’s cast of young bigs and that’s likely true to start the season. However, at the trade deadline you can bet that the Magic are going to try and off-load Harrington on a playoff team and try to dump the remaining years on his contract. HoopsWorld
