Thornton established himself as a talented scorer, but also established a reputation as a player who was unwilling to work hard and put in the time to improve. He had a maturity problem, too, and teams that considered signing him were worried that his off-court issues were impeding his on-court progress. One general manager told Sporting News that his team had considered signing Thornton but, “There are a lot of red flags, and you just want to see that he’s got all that under control. He is not a bad guy, he just does not have the reputation of a professional.” Sporting News

At Duffy’s suggestion, Thornton got help. “I have had a life coach I have been working with, helping me with my life issues,” Thornton said. “It’s really been a good experience for me, because I feel like I can control my life better now. I started this summer, I have been working with him for a while. I can admit, I was doing a lot of immature things. But I am past that.” Sporting News

A source close to James Posey said the Knicks have been in contact with the forward as recently as Monday. The source said Posey has been in talks with a number of teams and, as of Monday night, no deal had been struck. According to a report Monday from the Boston Globe, the Celtics are not interested in re-signing Posey, who was a key piece to their 2008 NBA championship team. Posey was amnestied by the Indiana Pacers and cleared waivers, so he is free to sign with any team. Other Knicks targets of interest may include Al Thornton and Bostjan Nachbar. ESPN.com
