With Williams out, Alan Anderson has started at shooting guard. Kidd brings guard Jason Terry, versatile forward Andrei Kirilenko and big men Mirza Teletovic, Andray Blatche and Reggie Evans off the bench. The small lineup has created issues for some teams with size, including the Thunder, Hawks and Warriors. "The confidence is building, morale is high obviously, but through the cases of when we have guys out, everybody knows we have to pick it up a bit," Garnett said. "But since the New Year game we've obviously tried to turn this thing around not just from an effort standpoint, but for each other. USA Today Sports

It was the story arc that led GM Bill King to pull off the blockerbuster draft-day trade that brought Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry from Boston to Brooklyn. The deal not only brought three players with championship pedigrees, but brought Brooklyn what it clearly lacked — a true leader. “He’s the heartbeat of the team,” guard Alan Anderson says of Garnett. “He has a demeanor like, ‘We are Brooklyn.’ “When you think of Brooklyn, New York, you think of tough, hard-working. He brings that each time we step in between these lines. That’s the impression we want to give." New York Daily News

Before this week's addition of Alan Anderson for a mere $947,907, Brooklyn was over the luxury-tax threshold by $29,515,102 ... which projected to a 2013-14 luxury tax of $82,939,184. Now? Adding Anderson on a minimum deal nudges those figures to $30,463,009 ... and a mind-numbing $87,199,293. So the signing of a player due to make just under $1 million next season will cost Brooklyn more than $4 million in additional taxes under the league's much more punitive tax laws that go into effect this season. Ross could not crack the Raptors’ small lineup down the stretch, with DeMar DeRozan, Landry Fields and Alan Anderson each playing ahead of him. Valanciunas played a few fourth-quarter minutes with Amir Johnson in foul trouble, but came out in the final stretch. Kyle Lowry’s four final-minute points won the game for the Raptors. “I had to get Jonas out at the end, bless his heart,” Casey said. He said, ‘Coach, [Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson] is coming really fast.’ I said, ‘Guess what: All of them are coming fast.’ … Everything is so fast for rookies.
