Every year, the NBA tips its hand as to who it believes are the top 14 or 15 prospects in the draft with its annual "green room" invitations. These players are invited by the league to sit in a special room with their families and agent on draft night. When their names are called, they leave the room and go up on stage to shake commissioner David Stern's hand. This year's invitees to the June 23 draft: Kyrie Irving (Duke); Derrick Williams (Arizona); Enes Kanter (Turkey); Brandon Knight (Kentucky); Kemba Walker (UConn); Jonas Valanciunas (Lithuania); Jan Vesely (Czech Republic); Kawhi Leonard (San Diego St.); Chris Singleton (Florida St.); Klay Thompson (Washington St.); Tristan Thompson (Texas); Jimmer Fredette (BYU); Marcus Morris (Kansas); and Alec Burks (Colorado). A 15th name has been added -- Markieff Morris of Kansas. Markieff is Marcus Morris' twin and also widely considered to be a top 20 draft pick. ESPN.com Mike Wells: SG Alec Burks (Colorado) and PF Tristan Thompson (Texas) are two notable players who turned down opportunities to workout for the Pacers Twitter |

Burks seemed strangely nervous when we interviewed him. That surprised me, in that if you're a star in the Big 12, and you've lived in a major media market (Boulder is just outside Denver), you should be experienced and comfortable fielding media questions. Charlotte Observer |

Alec Burks of Colorado, a candidate for the ninth pick by the Jordan-owned Bobcats, and Marshon Brooks of Providence, a possibility for Charlotte at No. 19, couldn't compete because of recent injuries. The Bobcats said Burks dislocated his shoulder working out for Milwaukee on Saturday and Brooks twisted an ankle Friday auditioning for New York. ESPN.com Like most teams, the Bucks have been keeping their draft plans close to the vest. They have simply said they are seriously considering several prospects with their top pick - the 10th overall - and will take the most talented player available regardless of position. But after his workout Saturday at the Cousins Center in St. Francis, Alec Burks, considered by many NBA officials as the best shooting guard in the draft, said Bucks officials made it clear he fits the profile of their top pick. "They said they wanted an athletic wing," Burks said. "I think I fit the bill." Burks also acknowledged he was taken out to dinner at a downtown Milwaukee restaurant by the Bucks on Friday night. Joining Burks were Bucks general manager John Hammond, assistant general manager Jeff Weltman and scouting director Billy McKinney. Racine Journal-Times Burks is believed to be the only draft prospect the Bucks have wined and dined since workouts commenced last week. The 6-foot-6 Burks said he enjoyed his time with Bucks officials. "They were joking around and I was joking around," Burks said. "It was a great time." Racine Journal-Times |

Two names to remember: Colorado’s Alec Burks and Washington State’s Klay Thompson, both taller, rangier two-way perimeter prospects who could be available at the Warriors’ spot. And it is logical that the best time to trade Ellis will be draft night, when NBA executives always are at their most active. When the time is right for bold decision-making, if you’re willing and eager to pull the trigger on trading a popular player. “They have attractive players on this team that a lot of people would like to have,” West said of the Warriors. “If you’re in a position of strength, and you have (a player) somebody might want badly, you might be able to acquire a couple of really good players that give you more depth — it gives you a better balance to your team.” San Jose Mercury-News |

If Alec Burks plays NBA basketball as vividly as he talks NBA basketball, this kid will be quite interesting. Ask Burks, a 6-foot-6 combo guard from Colorado, how he'll affect the game, and he makes a reference from a decade ago: "I'm like a young T-Mac when he was in Orlando," Burks said, referring to Tracy McGrady. "In his Orlando days, he was very versatile. He could shoot, pass, dribble. He did anything his team needed to win." Charlotte Observer |

Don't be surprised if Portland, which has the 21st pick, tries to move up, perhaps to land Colorado shooting guard Alec Burks. Milwaukee (10), Charlotte (9) and Houston (14) are also big Burks' fans. Burks, by the way, has the ideal shooting guard size, measuring 6-6 in shoes, 6-5 without. Racine Journal-Times Bucks general manager John Hammond, coach Scott Skiles and members of the basketball staff are in Chicago to evaluate draft prospects and get to know them better. The Bucks are able to interview as many as 18 players in 30-minute sessions at the Westin Hotel in downtown Chicago. "It was a great meeting for me," Burks said of his interview with the Bucks. "They liked me a lot. I liked their staff a lot. "I liked their system, where they're going and their players." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Carlos Delfino and Corey Maggette both can play shooting guard or small forward. But a team that ranked last in the NBA in field goal percentage and scoring clearly could use an offensive boost. Burks is known as an athletic player who can slash to the rim and get to the foul line, and he said he would be able to handle the ball or play a bit of point guard if necessary. He said he has modeled himself after Detroit Pistons guard Tracy McGrady. "I'm like a young T-Mac when he was in Orlando," Burks said. "He was on TV a lot when I was young. "In his Orlando days he was very versatile. He could shoot, pass, dribble. He did anything his team needed to win." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel |
