Oh, the Wolves will have their options, even after the top shooting guards -- Kansas' Ben McLemore and Indiana's Victor Oladipo -- go top 5 probably. They could choose Lehigh's C.J. McCollum, who's a great shooter but is point-guard sized at 6-3, or Georgia's Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who would fill Wolves need for both shooters and real 2-guard size. But don't be surprised if the Wolves end up going for a shotblocker -- Maryland center Alex Len if he drops that far, or maybe 7-2 French center Rudy Gobert -- for a team that lacks a rim defender. Suns scouts have held a high interest in Len since before the past college season. “I think I have the biggest upside in this draft from the big guys,” Len said. “Maybe 10 years from now, I’ll be the best player in this draft.” The combine benefited Zeller, younger brother of ex-Suns player Luke Zeller. He did not show much improvement in his sophomore season or the shooting range that he needs to be an NBA face-up power forward. But Zeller measured 7 feet in shoes, although his wingspan is an inch shorter, and he had the best standing vertical leap (35 1/2 inches) and fastest lane agility drill time of all combine participants. His three-quarter court sprint was sixth fastest. “I have the ability to shoot,” Zeller said. “I didn’t show it as much this year. We needed more of a low-post player. We had so many outside shooters. I think I’ll be able to show more of that ability in individual workouts.” Arizona Republic

Alex Len arrived in Chicago on Wednesday night night and promptly met with four teams — the Utah Jazz, Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics. The Jazz, Kings and T-Wolves all hold lottery picks and are three of 10 such teams scheduled to meet with the 7-foot-1 Len this week. Several others outside the lottery, like the Celtics, have also lined up interviews. Washington Post

University of Maryland sophomore center Alex Len is forgoing his final two years of collegiate eligibility to enter the NBA Draft. "I'm very grateful for the two years I've spent at Maryland and for everyone that has supported me during my time here," said Len. "It's been an honor to play here and I've learned so much. I want to thank Coach Turgeon and the coaching staff for believing in me and helping me grow as a player and a person. I also want to thank my teammates who were always there for me. We shared some great moments together. I've grown a lot, both on the court and off the court, over the past two years and I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life." UMTerps.com

There are a few scouts who are worried that Len might turn out to be another Nikoloz Tskitishvili, a 7-footer who was the fifth overall pick of the Denver Nuggets in 2002 and averaged less than three points and two rebounds in a 172-game career. Baltimore Sun

When I mentioned the name Darko Milicic, who was infamously picked by the Detroit Pistons behind LeBron James and ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in 2003, a scout who played in the league said, “Darko didn’t want to play basketball. You can see Alex does.” Baltimore Sun

Should Alex Len decide to forgo two years of college eligibility and declare for the NBA draft, he will likely be among the top big men selected, a virtual lottery lock by most projections. Scouts love his athleticism and raw talent, particularly that feathery touch on mid-range jumpers. “As far as the things that he would probably need to improve on,” said one Eastern Conference executive, speaking on condition of anonymity because of NBA policy, “Number one, I don’t think his body is quite ready to go up against NBA starting centers yet. I think that will be a big transition for him.” Washington Post

Maryland center Alex Len said it’s too early to say whether he will return for his junior season or opt for the NBA draft. “No, I haven’t thought about it,” the seven-footer from Ukraine said after the Terps practiced at Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum for Thursday night’s ACC tournament game against Wake Forest. “I’m just trying to go ahead day by day and play every game. Right now, I’m focused on Wake Forest and I’m just going to think about it after the season.” Baltimore Sun

“Len made himself a lot of money,” ESPN draft analyst Chad Ford said of the Maryland center's 23-point, 12-rebound effort against Kentucky that also included four blocked shots. “Scouts have been watching him ever since his strong performance in the under-18 European Championship in 2010. They've wanted to love him as they do most 7-1 big men. His inconsistent freshman season gave them pause, but his dramatic debut, against the NBA length and athleticism that Kentucky has, made a major impact.” Baltimore Sun
