While currently recovering from a left ankle surgery that had him in a boot, Alex Len’s routine medical exam showed the Phoenix Suns’ medical staff the “very beginnings” of a stress fracture in the center’s right ankle. The team announced surgery was performed Monday. Len should be able to return by the beginning of the season, the team said. “As a precautionary measure, our medical staff determined that it would be prudent to perform surgery on Alex Len’s right ankle at this time,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby in a press release. “That surgery was successfully completed this morning. As part of a routine evaluation, our medical team identified the very beginnings of a stress fracture in Alex’s right ankle even though Alex was entirely asymptomatic. We expect him to be available to begin the season.” Valley of the Suns

One day after the Phoenix Suns drafted Alex Len with the fifth pick in the NBA draft, Marcin Gortat was assured by the organization that it has no plan to trade him – for now – and might want to make him part of the future, his agent Guy Zucker told RealGM. RealGM

The Suns took Maryland big man Alex Len with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft Thursday night, leaving many to wonder if the Polish Hammer's days in the Valley are numbered. But for those looking at an upcoming departure date for Gortat, who averaged 11.1 points, 8.5 assists and 1.6 blocks in 61 games last season, not so fast. "We're not looking to move him," Suns general manager Ryan McDonough told Arizona Sports 620's Burns and Gambo Friday. "As you guys I'm sure know, Alex had foot surgery, and he's not ready to play. "Marcin is one of our best players here. He's a core guy for us. He is one of the more athletic bigs in the league, he screens, he rolls, he finishes and he blocks shots." Arizona's Sports Page

According to multiple team sources, Len's stress fracture in his ankle was not all the way across; it's just a hairline due to the fact that they caught it early. The prevailing thought is that he'll be ready for training camp. ESPN.com
