When the Rockets dealt big guard Alexey Shved and two future second-rounders for point guard Pablo Prigioni at the trade deadline, the club did so believing the Russian likely is planning a return to Europe next season, according to an NBA source. New York Post

Shved, 26, received scant playing time in Houston, and the Rockets didn’t see a future with him. Whatever he had been plotting, Shved denies Europe is on his mind now. In fact, he told The Post he hopes his future is as a New Yorker. New York Post

“I don’t know who said this,’’ Shved said regarding European aspirations. “But I’ve never said this. I’m not thinking about that. I want to stay here. “I’m not thinking about [free agency],’’ added Shved, who won a bronze medal on the 2012 Russian Olympic Team. “I still have this season. The next year I’m going to be a free agent, and that’s my agent’s job. I just want to finish this season in great shape and win a couple more games.’’ New York Post

The Knicks traded for Shved because they saw a fit for the triangle offense. “We definitely see the potential and his ability to play with our team and operate well within our format,’’ Fisher said. “He’s a good ballhandler and good passer and he can get to the rim and he’s pretty capable shooting.” New York Post

“One of the underrated pickups of the year I think will end up being their deal where they brought in Corey Brewer and Alexey Shved,” Dave Joerger said. “That’s right in their wheelhouse. Corey is a guy from right down the road (Portland, Tenn.) that I love a lot. I think he is going to help them, unfortunately. Alexey Shved is a good playmaker and a perfect fit for that system. I think that is a move that didn’t draw the attention a Josh Smith will and Rajon Rondo and guys like that. Everybody’s trying to load up.” Houston Chronicle
