Roughly ten minutes into today's Brooklyn Nets group workout, California junior guard Allen Crabbe -- connected in various mock drafts to the Nets at 22nd -- ended his workout early due to a foot injury, feeling at one point like his foot was about to break. His future workouts are now uncertain. "You don't want to see things like this happen at this time," Crabbe told us after the workout. "These workouts are very important for you. It's like a job interview. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and I'll be back playing soon." The Brooklyn Game

Crabbe said that he didn't have much pain in his foot when he was at California, but the foot started hurting due to overuse near the end of his workout with the New York Knicks Monday. He pushed through it Monday, but couldn't get past the beginning of Tuesday's workout with the Nets. The Brooklyn Game

But Crabbe needs to improve defensively. "He was a little bit lethargic," the college coach said. "He doesn't really get after it like he should. Somebody's going to have to really get into him defensively. He got more engaged when they made their run [to the NCAAs]. He hasn't really shown he can dig in. It isn't like he doesn't have the tools. That's more desire, more heart." An NBA personnel man concurred. "He's going to have to be with teammates that demand it every night," the personnel man said.
