Bryant scoffed at the idea that there was uncommon “restraint” required in his performance against double teams so aggressive that Denver’s Andre Miller said afterward: “I told him that we weren’t going to let him beat us, and we were going to make him trust his other teammates. He did that.” Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum in Game 7 became the first teammates in NBA playoff history to combine for at least 30 points, 30 rebounds, 20 offensive rebounds and 10 blocks in a game. Blake concluded after Gasol’s Game 7: “You saw the hunger.” And Gasol will need to bring that intensity much earlier in this series. “Got to continue to play the same way,” Gasol said. Now that the season has ended, Miller is one of three free agents the Nuggets have to make decisions on this summer, the first normal NBA calendar since 2010. It's likely the Nuggets will attempt to bring him back after his at-times spectacular playoff series against the Lakers. Miller is the only unrestricted free agent on the roster, so the decision to stay or leave is solely his. "I'll keep my options open," Miller said. "At this point in my career, if I'm going to be a backup, I'm going to be a backup on a championship-caliber team. Obviously, this team is a good team that's going to get to the playoffs, but the thing is if they are committed to getting to that next level to compete for that championship." Denver Post "I want to be on a team that's going to compete for a championship, and not use youth as a crutch or inexperience as a crutch," Miller said. "This team does have guys that can compete and can get out of the first round. It's just whether I can swallow my pride and deal with being a backup point guard. I have no problem with it, but at the same time I definitely still see myself as a starter in this league. Like I said, you have to swallow your pride sometimes. These young guys are coming in and they're working for it. So, that's just part of the business that I'm learning." Denver Post |

Veteran point guards such as Kirk Hinrich, Andre Miller and John Lucas top the list of unrestricted free agents. Others, such as guards Jamal Crawford and C.J. Watson, could be available depending how their options play out. And there may be some sleepers out there, too, such as Indiana's A.J. Price. San Jose Mercury-News |

![]() Despite his age, Miller doesn’t see himself retiring anytime soon. He’s still putting up solid numbers, averaging 10.1 points and 6.4 assists off the bench in Denver, and he wants to continue playing for as long as physically possible. “I want to keep playing until my legs don’t work anymore,” Miller said with a laugh. “I’m not thinking about life after basketball. I haven’t given that any thought yet.” HoopsWorld This summer, Miller will be an unrestricted free agent. After Deron Williams and Steve Nash, he’ll be one of the best point guards available and he’ll likely attract interest from a number of teams that need a distributor. Miller doesn’t know what to expect from free agency, but he’ll weigh his options this offseason. “I have no idea what’s going to happen right now,” Miller said. “I’m just going to play this season out and then see what happens this summer.” HoopsWorld |

![]() No moral outrage and no suspension. That was the aftermath of Denver guard Andre Miller’s flagrant 2 foul assessed Wednesday night when he lowered his shoulder and rammed it into the chest of Hornets forward Carl Landry with 10:40 to go in the second quarter. New Orleans Times-Picayune Miller was not disciplined by the NBA for a foul that was quite similar to the one administered by Jason Smith to the Clippers’ Blake Griffin, with the exception that it wasn’t a fast-break situation. Smith was suspended for two games. Hornets Coach Monty Williams could only laugh at the inequity — Miller played 33 minutes and scored 15 points in the Nuggets’ 105-99 win over Phoenix on Friday night — and continue to defend Smith’s reputation, which he deemed sullied by the rancor that followed his dustup with Griffin. “What the NBA does, I have to go along with that because they look at the fouls in a way that I don’t see them,” Williams said. “I thought (Miller) would get a game or two like Jason did. But what I didn’t see was all the media attention. I didn’t hear anybody from ESPN taking 10 minutes to go over the foul and talk about 10 games and how Andre was a thug and the whole bit. ![]() That is good news for Steve Nash, Andre Miller, Jamal Crawford and Ray Felton -- all veteran point guards who will be free agents this summer. Teams may take a chance on spending a little more on a veteran instead of the uncertainty of a rookie. "That's what's going to happen," a Western Conference executive said. "You're going to punt (on taking a guard) and take one of the 15 power forwards in this Draft." NBA.com |

![]() Miller didn't totally rule out re-signing next season with Denver. But he said that's not his preference. "Probably not," Miller said of re-signing with the Nuggets. "It depends on the situation. It's just something that you have to get used to. I don't want to get used to it. But if the situation says that I have to stay here for a couple of years, cool. But that's just something that I'd have to worry about later on."' FOXSports Florida Denver Nuggets point guard Andre Miller regularly was a starter in his first 12 NBA seasons. He's not too happy with that changing. Miller, who becomes a free agent after the season, said before Wednesday's game against New Jersey that he would "probably not" return to the Nuggets next season if the role is to back up Ty Lawson. But Miller wouldn't completely rule that out as a possibility if no better situations were available. "At this point in my career, I don't see myself as a backup," Miller, who entered the NBA in 1999, said in an interview with FOXSports.com. "For 13 years, I wasn't a backup before. This is a short season (due to the lockout), so I'll deal with it. But I don't see myself as a backup at this point in my career. I don't see that." FOXSports Florida "My goal is to play 15 to 17 years," Miller said. "I think I've been pretty competitive." Miller didn't believe there would have been a battle for the starting job with Lawson had a lockout not significantly shortened training camp. But Miller said he plans to have a good attitude and will "support" Lawson during the 66-game season. "He is the guy, that's pretty clear," Miller said of Lawson. "I understand why they brought me here, so I'm not going to dwell on this, 66 games. Move past and leave it alone." FOXSports Florida |

Andre Miller on being traded: “I didn’t even care. I was doing something with kids this summer. That was my main focus. I never really get my hopes up high. Anything can happen in this business, and you learn to move on from it.” Oregonian |

Well, according to coach George Karl, the Nuggets have The Most Intelligent Man In The Basketball World — point guard Andre Miller — who, of course, reads defenses for pleasure, gets assists on shots he doesn't set up and, yes, the only turnovers he makes are apple — and they're delicious. "There's a list of smart basketball players and Andre is at the top," Karl said. "Feel of the game, know the game, see the game, teach the game, direct the game. We're all going to be blessed and reap the rewards of having him on our team in a lot of ways. Whatever you want to call him — coach on the floor, brain, quarterback — what he teaches and preaches is winning. It's not about stats; it's not about how you look. It's what we have to do to win the game. And it's fun to be a part of." Denver Post |

And while coaches can't contact players until both sides ratify the new collective bargaining agreement, the players can start working out in their home arenas. "I feel all right. I still have a long way to go," the 35-year-old Miller said about his physical status. "I've been trying to stay in decent shape. I still am going to be a little out of shape. I'm just trying to be fundamentally right." Denver Post Asked if he's OK coming off the bench, Miller said: "I'm not even going to go into that right now. My main thing is just to stay in shape, stay competitive. I know I'm going to be on the court. I'm going to challenge and try to help the guy get better." Denver Post |

![]() Miller has always been disappointed he hasn’t been selected as an All-Star. About the only time you’ll see him on a highlight reel is throwing an alley-oop pass. But as other point guards have come and gone over the past decade, Miller has continued to prosper even though he’s received far less recognition than Steve Nash(notes), Jason Kidd and Chauncey Billups. Miller describes his NBA career “as solid,” but feels he’ll never truly win the public’s respect. “I doubt it, but I don’t even care,” Miller said. “I care what my peers think about me. …I feel like every team I’ve played on I’ve helped to make better.” Yahoo! Sports Shortly before Christmas 2006, the Nuggets made a blockbuster trade acquiring All-Star guard Allen Iverson for Miller and forward Joe Smith. The trade was bittersweet for Karl; he loved Miller’s play as a true point guard. Miller took the trade hard after having to cancel a Christmas trip to Denver for his son and start anew in Philadelphia. “I was a little bit bitter because I was young,” Miller said. “But the past is the past. I just had to realize it was a business. It was definitely a learning experience.” Yahoo! Sports |
