It could be another two weeks before New Orleans Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis recovers sufficiently from a stress reaction in his left ankle to resume playing. Davis said Sunday after the team's shootaround at a downtown hotel that a precautionary MRI following three ankle sprains in as many days revealed the problem, which is a precursor to a more serious stress fracture that would likely manifest itself without rest and rehabilitation. New Orleans Times-Picayune "The fact I sprained my ankle three times in that one week, that was odd," Davis said. "So they found that inside my foot. And you know the whole Grant Hill story, so they wanted to be very cautious with the way I handled things." New Orleans Times-Picayune |

Though Anthony Davis, the No. 1 draft pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, said he would play following Monday’s practice, he was held out of last night’s game against the Knicks. The Hornets’ young star tweaked his left ankle during Monday’s practice, and the team said it wouldn’t put him on the injury report. Yesterday, the Hornets said Davis’ injury was a “stress reaction.” “I guess you could say he was frustrated [about not playing],” Hornets coach Monty Williams said. New York Post |

![]() "He is learning, adjusting and playing hard," Hornets coach Monty Williams said in his pre-game remarks. "The guys he plays against are the best in the world. "Some night you're playing against Serge Ibaka, the next night is Tim Duncan and after that you might have Kevin Garnett. At some point this year they're going to have to worry about Anthony. He is a very hard worker, and he is just about the most coachable player I have ever seen. We are very lucky to have him." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Davis missed two games due to a concussion but returned on Nov. 9 and posted 23 ppints and 11 rebounds in a New Orleans victory over Charlotte. "He's a very good all-around player," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "He's only going to get better I think. He's in a great spot. "They're a team that tries to stay organized and do things the right way. And he's got all the physical tools." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel |

Late in the second quarter of the Hornets’ win over the Bobcats on Friday, Anthony Davis and Byron Mullens got tangled up. There was some pushing and shoving to go along with the requisite showing of bravado, before the referees stepped in and the two had to be separated. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist then came over to intervene, in what you’d hope was an attempt to calm rather than inflame the situation. But the official was already there, so MKG ended up running him over, which sent the ref tumbling to the ground. There’s no guarantee Kidd-Gilchrist will be suspended for the contact; the rule book only specifies an automatic one-game suspension for making “intentional” contact with an official, and in this case, that’s going to be subjective. ![]() After sitting out the previous two games with a mild concussion, New Orleans Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis could be cleared to play for Friday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats, according to sources close to the situation. Davis said after Thursday's practice that he is no longer experiencing recurring concussion symptoms such as headaches but continues to undergo tests required in the NBA's strict concussion policy. New Orleans Times-Picayune ``I feel good,'' said Davis, the No. 1 overall pick in the June NBA draft. ``I've been on a bike, shooting, running and jumping, just seeing how everything feels,'' Davis said. ``Hopefully, I will get a chance to play tomorrow. I'm not sure what's going on yet.'' New Orleans Times-Picayune |

![]() Chad Ford: This isn't the greatest year to have a Top 3 pick in the draft. The consensus Top 3 are Nerlens Noel, Cody Zeller and Shabazz Muhammad. I like all three, but not sure any of them are franchise players the way Anthony Davis was. For the Suns, I would suspect Muhammad might be the most attractive. ESPN.com |

Williams made the comments when asked about Hornets forward Anthony Davis, who was injured last Friday night when he was hit in the heat with an elbow from teammate Austin Rivers. "The better he feels in the next couple of days, it helps the situation,'' Williams said before Saturday's game at the United Center. "But when you're dealing with the brain, I guess what's happening in football it's impacted everybody. So he got touched up a little bit last night and I'm sure that happens a lot in basketball. It's just that now you treat everybody like they have on white gloves and pink drawers. It's just getting old, but it's just the way the league is now.'' New Orleans Times-Picayune |

![]() New Orleans Hornets coach Monty Williams blasted the NBA's protocols for determining when a player can return from a concussion, a day after No. 1 draft pick Anthony Davis suffered a mild one. Williams unloaded before Saturday's game against the Chicago Bulls, saying, "Now, they treat everybody like they have white gloves and pink drawers and it's getting old. It's just the way the league is now." Associated Press "It's a man's game," Williams said. "They're treating these guys like they're 5 years old. He desperately wanted to come (to Chicago), but he couldn't make it." Associated Press Asked what he doesn't like about the concussion policy, he said, "I'm not saying I don't like it. We've got to protect the players, but I think the players should have more say-so in how they feel. I'm sure I had four or five concussions when I played, and it didn't bother me. The NBA is doing what's necessary to protect the players, but this is not the NFL. You don't get hit in the head that much. I understand it. But as a coach, I'm a baby about it. I want my guys ready to play." Associated Press |

The Hornets announced after the game that Davis will undergo further tests in New Orleans on Saturday. The NBA put in a concussion policy in 2011 that will determine when players return from head injuries. Under the rule, Davis will have to complete a series of tests to determine if he's fit to return. Once Davis is free of symptoms, he will have to make it through increasing stages of exertion, from a stationary bike, to jogging, agility work to non-contact drills while ensuring the concussion-like symptoms don't return after each one, according to the league's concussion policy. New Orleans Times-Picayune The New Orleans Hornets announced Friday that rookie forward Anthony Davis suffered a “mild concussion” during the second quarter of a Friday night game against the Utah Jazz. Davis will not travel with the Hornets to Chicago for a Saturday night game against the Bulls at the United Center and will instead remain in New Orleans to undergo “further tests.” He is currently listed as day-to-day.
