The reaction in the Mavericks’ locker room was mixed about the play former teammate Dahntay Jones had against Kobe Bryant on Wednesday night. Jones, who was traded to Atlanta for Anthony Morrow last month, stepped under Bryant at the end of the Hawks’ win. Bryant said it was a dangerous and dirty play. Jones said it was good defense. “It was a 50-50 play,” said Brandan Wright. Added Darren Collison: “Tough play. That’s all I can say about it.” Dallas Morning News |

![]() The Mavs ended up only making a minor deal, sending Dahntay Jones to Atlanta for Anthony Morrow. At one point, however, Cuban says he thought the Mavs would be pulling the trigger on a blockbuster deal at the deadline. “It was crazy,” Cuban said Friday on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM’s “Ben and Skin Show.” “We thought we had a bunch of things done, literally a bunch of things done. We had teams get cold feet at the last minute. … Things that would have used cap room next year, would have had money next year, that were high-dollar guys, difference-maker guys.” ESPN.com ![]() The Mavericks didn’t have to go far to get the lowdown on the player they finally settled on to help them at the trade deadline. When Don Nelson coached at Golden State, he was there for Anthony Morrow’s first two seasons in the NBA. When Nelson’s son, Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson called to get a scouting report, he liked what he heard. “Next to Chris Mullin,” the former Mavericks coach said, “[Morrow’s] probably the best pure shooter I ever coached. You’re going to love him.” Dallas Morning News Anthony Morrow: I'm going to miss my dawgs Twitter @MrAnthonyMorrow |

While the Nets certainly want Gordon, sources said acquiring Smith is their higher priority. A trade for Smith would seemingly kill a deal for Gordon, because Humphries is one of the players being discussed with Atlanta. The Nets are willing to give up Humphries and second-year shooting guard MarShon Brooks for Smith. But it almost certainly will take more than a Humphries-Brooks combination to pry Smith away from Atlanta, and one source said the Hawks want Brooklyn's first-round pick. Some scenarios that have been discussed include the Hawks' Anthony Morrow, who played the past two seasons with the Nets, returning to the club. ESPN.com |

![]() Shooting guard Anthony Morrow is one of those talents and figures to earn consistent minutes this season in Atlanta under head coach Larry Drew as the Hawks replace Johnson by committee. Morrow played collegiately at Georgia Tech and is familiar with the Atlanta area. The fifth year guard will be an unrestricted free agent next summer, but is letting it be known his first preference would be to play well enough this season to earn a multi-year offer from the Atlanta Hawks. “Definitely,” Morrow told HOOPSWORLD on his desire to sign a multi-year deal in Atlanta. “I would love to be here long term. It’s like home for me. I’m familiar with here. It would be great. I’m looking forward to it, when that day comes. So I just want to come out and focus on having a great season.” HoopsWorld |

Josh Smith may not hear the groans from the Philips Arena crowd when he squares up to take a 3-pointer this season. Why? Listen to Smith tell it. “You haven’t seen the roster?” Smith turned around a reporter’s question about his long-range shooting plans on a rebuilt Hawks roster. “We’ve got Kyle Korver, Devin Harris, Louis Williams, Anthony Morrow, Anthony Tolliver. Am I missing anyone? Jeff Teague. … So there we go. That answers that question. I didn’t even say my name did I? Call me mid-range shawty.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution |

The Nets have announced they have acquired six-time all-star shooting guard Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks, in exchange for Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro and Jordan Williams. Farmar is expected to be bought out by the Hawks and is expected to sign a three-year contract with a team in Turkey. “We are very pleased to add a perennial All-Star caliber player like Joe Johnson to our roster,” said King. “Joe is considered one of the premier guards in the NBA, and his skill and talent level will have a very positive impact on our team.” Newark Star-Ledger ![]() Anthony Morrow: Couldn't tweet this until today but I just want to thank the Nets organization and the great GREAT New Jersey And Brooklyn fans. Twitter Tim Bontemps: There isn't a classier guy in the league than @Anthony Morrow ... best of luck in Atlanta. Twitter |

The Hawks have thus quickly emerged as a potential destination for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, who grew up in the Atlanta area and is close friends with Hawks swingman Josh Smith. Howard is also close with Anthony Morrow, one of five players that the Hawks will acquire from the Brooklyn Nets in their pending trade with the Nets for Johnson. ESPN.com |
