On Monday, Kelly Dwyer noted that New Jersey Nets sharpshooter Anthony Morrow had plans to honor franchise legend Drazen Petrovic at Saturday's Three-Point Contest. It was a great idea to pay tribute to one of the Nets' best players ever, a guy who would have gone on to accomplish even more in the NBA if his life hadn't been cut short by a terrible car accident in 1993. Morrow followed through on his promise, wearing a classic Petrovic jersey during his first-round run during the Three-Point Contest (screenshots via SB Nation). And while Morrow's 14 points weren't enough for him to advance to the competition's final round, most everyone agreed that his gesture made him the event's emotional winner. Yahoo! Sports

Anthony Morrow will use the All-Star break as an opportunity a pivotal figure in Nets history and a superstar lost to early. Morrow will participate in the three-point shooting contest this weekend wearing a Drazen Petrovic jersey. Petrovic was a Net for two-plus years, from midway through the 1990-91 season until 1993, and left a large impression on the franchise. He died in a car crash at 28 years old that summer. His No. 3 jersey is one of five retired by the organization after he spent his only two full seasons with the team averaging more than 20 points-per-game in each. Newark Star-Ledger

The Nets have lost their last six games and 21 of 29 overall on the season. But they will still have three representatives in Orlando for the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. Anthony Morrow has been invited to take part in the 3-point shooting contest, joining teammates Deron Williams, who will be a member of the Eastern Conference squad for the All-Star game, and rookie MarShon Brooks, who was selected to play in the rookie-sophomore game. “I’m really excited, man -- ecstatic,’’ Morrow said in a telephone interview this afternoon. “This morning my agent called me and told me they’re going to invite me. I’m really excited, and thankful for the opportunity.’’ Newark Star-Ledger

Morrow's career .448 shooting from beyond the arc remains six percentage points behind all-time leader Steve Kerr, and he's second in the league this season in three-pointers made (59). "I would hope (he'd invited to the three-point competition), yes," Johnson said. "I think he's hands down one of the top two or three three- point shooters in the NBA." New York Daily News

With that in mind, the Nets have offered fourth-year guard Anthony Morrow for Mayo. Morrow, a 6-5 shooting guard, will earn $4 million this year and is guaranteed for $4 million next season. Mayo is making $5.6 this season — the final year of his rookie contract. He has a $7.4 million qualifying offer for the 2012-13 campaign. The Griz have not discussed a contract extension with Mayo nor do they plan to before the Jan. 25 deadline. Memphis Commercial Appeal

Nets guard Anthony Morrow went through it last year. Now that he has heard his name in a trade rumor again, he shrugs it off. “It bothered me last year because I had never been through it,” said Morrow, whose name was discussed as part of the then never-ending Carmelo Anthony circus. “Being through that and seeing it’s really not that big of a deal, it’s not that big of a deal.” New York Post

Morrow is open to the idea of playing overseas and would love to join Williams in Turkey if the opportunity presents itself. “I would definitely consider it,” Morrow said. “I wouldn’t rule that out. I think I speak for a lot of guys when I say we just want to play basketball. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about. I love this game so much. If the right offer came from a team overseas, and it happened to be Deron’s team, I would love to go over there and play.” HoopsWorld
