Count Tim Duncan among supporters of embattled Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry. Duncan on Wednesday defended Ferry, his former teammate on the Spurs, against charges of racism after his use of racially charged comments during a conference call with the Hawks ownership group in June. Ferry has since taken a leave of absence from his post in Atlanta. “Knowing Danny, he’s not what everybody’s saying about him. He believes the guard can still compete in the NBA, telling RU, "Antonio is at a crossroad in his career. A growing trend in the league has been N.B.A. veterans, like Antoine Walker, Antonio Daniels and Mikki Moore, signing with the D- League in an effort to make their way back to the N.B.A. It is a situation akin to baseball’s Class AAA where there is a wide range in potential ages among the players. “Those guys are all N.B.A.-caliber players, so that improves the talent level of the league, but they also are coaches on the floor for the rookies and the young guys,” Reed said. “It doesn’t hurt that it attracts greater fan attention.” New York Times

The Frisco-based Legends found out later in the evening that they won't have coach-on-the-floor Antonio Daniels for their best-of-3 series with the Tulsa 66ers, because Daniels has finally realized his season-long goal by securing a 10-day contract from the Philadelphia 76ers. Daniels will be joining the Sixers on Monday, sources close to the situation told ESPNDallas.com, to help them cope with the indefinite loss of guard Lou Williams, who suffered a hamstring injury Saturday night in Milwaukee.
