With the possible exception of fellow veteran Glen Davis, no player appeared to take the Magic's losing harder than Afflalo. After defeats, Afflalo would note the ways the team — including himself — could have played better, and team officials hoped his intensity would filter down to his younger teammates. ![]() Josh Robbins: The #Orlando #Magic will not sign anyone to a 10-day contract because of Arron Afflalo's injury. Twitter @JoshuaBRobbins Arron Afflalo, the Orlando Magic's leading scorer, will miss the team's final 12 games this regular season after he injured his right hamstring Friday night, team officials said. Afflalo has been diagnosed with a strained hamstring, and team officials plan to treat the injury with rest and physical therapy. Afflalo's absence will force coach Jacque Vaughn to give additional time to backup guard Beno Udrih and also to youngsters E'Twaun Moore, DeQuan Jones and Doron Lamb. Orlando Sentinel |

![]() Apparently, those on the Orlando Magic are (or were) big readers of @HoopsHype. Guard J.J. Redick this week told @HPBasketball he's had to stop reading @HoopsHype because of all trade rumors surrounding him. Arron Afflalo said he got his news last summer about his situation, which resulted in a trade in August from the Nuggets to the Magic, from the Website. "I was reading @HoopsHype,'' Afflalo said. "Usually, rumors aren't true but they have some significance. I just don't think they come out of thin air all the time.'' Sulia |

(League sources believe one of the reasons for the Nuggets' up-and-down play to start the season is the absence of Afflalo, whom Denver coach George Karl loved.) Gustavo Ayon came from New Orleans in the sign-and-trade deal that sent Ryan Anderson to the Hornets, and has converted from center to power forward in Orlando. NBA.com |

![]() But rarely has an athlete had a verse dedicated to him as reflective as Orlando Magic guard Arron Afflalo. It has brought attention to a player the casual NBA fan might not have known much about before the album was released in October. On Kendrick Lamar's major-label debut album *good kid, m.A.A.d city*, Lamar raps on "Black Boy Fly" about being jealous of Afflalo, his classmate at Centennial High School in Compton Sacramento Bee Afflalo said he had no idea he would be featured by Lamar, considered one of the up-and-coming stars in hip-hop. "Like any adult or person that's getting older and you realize and appreciate some of the things you did to become successful," Afflalo said. "You never notice it while you're in the midst of it, of all the hard work it takes. "He's just another shining example of a kid coming from a city where a lot of people don't make it, especially the avenues he had to come through. So I'm happy for him." Sacramento Bee |

Rasheed is averaging "just" five points and three rebounds this season in his return to the NBA, but he's making that noise happen in only 10 minutes a contest. That is some solid per-minute production. Of course, Sheed is shooting more often per-minute than any rotation player on the Knicks outside of Carmelo Anthony (he's even shooting more frequently, per-minute, than J.R. Smith), managing a whopping 10.9 three-pointers attempted for every 36 minutes of play in spite of making just 18.8 percent of his looks from long range, while nailing just 40 percent of his shots overall. THIS IS NOT THE POINT. The point is that 38-year old Rasheed Wallace calls Orlando Magic guard Arron Afflalo "AFLAC" after he misses free throws. And that, with at least some of his traits, we're glad Rasheed Wallace will never change. Yahoo! Sports There are many ways to trash talk your opponent on the basketball court. The method chosen by Rasheed Wallace here is definitely one of my favorites. Sure, you can be mean, funny, vulgar, profane, or a combination of all of those. But in the NBA, where egos are often as big as guys’ salaries, simple and subtle non-recognition could dig the deepest of all. Arron Afflalo steps to the line for two free throws. After missing the first, Wallace can clearly be heard excitedly shouting, “Yeah, Aflac!” Not Afflalo. Aflac. NBCSports.com |

Arron Afflalo isn’t providing the Denver Nuggets with any bulletin-board fodder. He’s been asked repeatedly what it’ll be like to face his former team when the Orlando Magic open their regular season tonight at Amway Center. But Afflalo, who was sent by the Nuggets to the Magic in the Dwight Howard trade, is taking a low-key stance. “Under any other circumstance, if this was a little deeper into the season, it may be more of a personal emphasis,” he said. “But it’s our home opener. To me, it’s all about getting a ‘W.’ ” Orlando Sentinel |

George Karl on the trade the Nuggets made this offseason: “We didn’t want to make a trade unless we knew it was going to make us better. Iguodala was kind of rumored all last year and a little bit after the season, they have Evan Turner that they maybe want to give a little more opportunity to, they see Iguodala and Turner being a little bit repetitive and of course Iguodala has the bigger contract so I think Masai (Ujiri) just did a great job of keeping a good pulse of what was going on. The negative of the trade is giving up Arron Afflalo and Al who were both very, very pivotal players on our basketball team last year and they’re good leaders on our team. Everybody is saying, what is the difference of the team going to be? And I’m not afraid of the differences and I’m hoping we can get whoever, Ty Lawson or Iggy or someone, into that locker room and give us the positive leadership that Arron and Al gave us and maybe a little bit more.” Sports Radio Interviews |

Danny and Aaron lived in a little-known section of Compton where the lots are large and the area is still zoned for horses and farm animals. The area around the Afflalo’s house resembled a farm you might see miles out in the Eastern California valleys, complete with horses, chickens and other farm animals. Only, this was the heart of Compton and the mean streets were just a block away. Living on ``the farm’’ taught Afflalo about responsibility and disciple and it kept him away from Compton’s most dangerous areas. ``It is literally three blocks of farm in the middle of Compton,’’ Afflalo said on Thursday after being taking his physical with the Magic and meeting the Orlando media. ``Compton is what it is from an image standpoint, but (the farm) is a nice area. You will see horses and chickens there and you go over one block and it becomes your typical streets. We stayed there from my freshman year of high school until I graduated and I loved it.’’ NBA.com In Orlando, Afflalo will wear No. 4, a nod to his childhood hero Byron Scott, a former All-Star guard with the Lakers and now the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The jersey number is a link the past that Afflalo doesn’t want to forget. He knows that he might not have ever made it to the NBA without the support of his parents and that oasis that he simply calls "the farm." ``I’ve got great parents. My dad is the best dad in the world,’’ Afflalo said recently. ``I’ve learned a lot from him. He was on his own early in life. I think those experiences have transferred to the person that I am, whether it’s basketball or life in general. He had a rough childhood, but he’s very smart. My mom’s very smart, too and I don’t want to discredit her. But I can tell the way that I am, the way that I think, my personality, definitely resembles (Danny). … Knowing how I am, I can tell how he was. I’m just the mirror image of him. I just happen to love basketball a lot.’’ NBA.com |
