The Nets track all his games, blowouts or not, watching video and not just highlight packages. Billy King has personally scouted him and met with him. Still, It's not a guarantee that the Nets roster will include the 6'8" Bojan Bogdanovic next season. He has an "NBA out" this July on this three-year contract that will permit him to sign with Brooklyn. He hasn't said much about this recently but at the beginning of the season, he told a Turkish paper that he'd like to play, but...only if he's going to contribute. Whether I'm with the Nets will depend on how I play and what the results of my club will be. I'm not that crazy about the NBA league, but I'd like to try it. I feel that I can play in the NBA, but I do not want to go sit there and be satisfied with the fact that I was there. NetsDaily

Waiting until the off-season would also give General Manager Billy King time to make another roster move, either before the Feb. 21 trading deadline or in the spring. If Jackson is going to coach again — and that remains unclear — he will want to see a “path to the championship,” in the words of one confidant. The Nets cannot provide that path with the current roster. New York Times

When asked specifically about Phil Jackson, King simply said, "P.J. is our coach." "More than anything, you just need to calm the waters and let guys breathe as a group and try to gel," King told O'Connor. "Because if we're in the middle of a search, the turmoil just continues. We need our guys to just focus on the now and San Antonio." NetsDaily

Less than a month later, the award can be used to wrap fish. After ownership called and asked many within and outside the organization for input, Johnson was notified yesterday he was being canned. “It was ownership,” said general manager Billy King when asked who made the call. New York Post

We joke, but now that AJ’s a goner, our sympathy is transferred to King. Those around the organization claim that he still has ownership’s trust, but these things tend to change, and we’ll be damned if you should feel comfortable after investing one-third of a billion dollars in a .500 team when you take orders from some guy 10,000 miles away named Dmitry. No other players were suspended, although Wallace was fined $35,000 and Garnett was fined $25,000. Humphries didn’t receive any additional penalties. Nets general manager Billy King said he had a long conversation with Stu Jackson, the NBA executive vice president of basketball operations, about his decisions in the matter. “We’ll agree to disagree,” King said on a conference call with reporters. “Stu has a tough job at the league and they make decisions that, from the team standpoint, you don’t agree with them. But they have to make tough decisions and so ... I don’t want to share my conversation with him because I don’t think that’s fair. His job is tough. They make decisions, but I’ll agree to disagree with him.” New York Post

Brooklyn was still an undefined vision, a hope for King and the Nets at that point. The team was moving from New Jersey one way or another, but King knew he had to get an All-Star for the journey. And he was crushed that night when the phone rang and he learned that it was Knicks 1, Nets 0 in the battle for New York. "I was down," King recalled Monday night, after the Nets won what felt like the first episode in what will be a venomous, compelling rivalry with a 96-89 victory over the Knicks in Brooklyn. "But I got up the next morning, went to the office, and I was thinking on it. And then Kevin O'Connor made the call." CBSSports.com

Everybody knew about Anthony, and later, Dwight Howard. But King said one of the first calls he made when he got the Nets job was to New Orleans about another superstar point guard -- a point guard named Chris Paul. "I got the job and I knew there was probably going to be a chance," King said. "I knew there was the potential for three guys to be available. I made a run at Chris, they said no right away, and then I made the run at Carmelo. I figured if I got him then I could go after Deron as a free agent. Really, I was getting Carmelo to get Deron. "For us, if I had gotten Carmelo, I already had Brook Lopez," King said. "So I still would've needed a point guard. If I was getting Deron and I had Brook, then I could build around them. Once I had Deron and I had Brook -- even though I went after Dwight -- I knew that if you had a point guard and a big man, you could build around that easy." CBSSports.com

The Nets didn’t trade for Gerald Wallace because of how they could match up with the Heat or because they figured he could guard James, although that’s how GM Billy King is busy spinning it now. Nets insiders vividly recall that Wallace was imported from Portland because “we got burned by Dwight Howard,” according to one team source, “and we were hoping that getting Wallace would help keep Deron Williams around.” Back then, it was all about keeping Williams from bolting to the Mavs. The Heat/James angle wasn’t a big consideration. Billy King: I think after 20 games, that gives you an idea of where you're going to be. I don't think we are in a panic mode defensively but we know we got to get better at it. Key to playing Miami is you can't put them on the foul line and you better not turn the ball over because they'll get out and run. They're looking to push the ball. NetsDaily
