Retirement doesn't bother Miller. He's managed his substantial income well, the importance of sound financial decisions honed during his childhood when money was scarce. He continues his work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and plans to expand his yearly golf tournament this year. “People always talk about high divorce rates (after retirement), but I'm going to be happy to be home with my wife,” he said. “I still have the hunting show. Instead of staying at the JW Marriott, I'll be in a tent out in the middle of nowhere with a gun for protection in case there's a bear in camp.” news-sentinel.com |

The veteran center recovering from May knee surgery proved as much Sunday night, when he made his Timberwolves debut by playing his first game since his Houston team won at Target Center in the season finale last April. "Definitely felt kind of weird," Miller said after the 106-101 loss to the Lakers. "Last time I actually played was in this arena. It has been nine months, but it felt like it has been about a year and a half." He played eight minutes -- a little less than four minutes in the second quarter, a little more than four minutes in the third. The Wolves needed help against Lakers big men Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol because Darko Milicic was sick for a second consecutive game and starting center Nikola Pekovic got into foul trouble. "My legs were shaking like I was about a rookie out there," Miller said. "The work I've done on my knee, I've just got to get my brain on the same page." Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

Timberwolves center Brad Miller has spent the summer at home on his 1,000-acre farm in northeastern Indiana waiting and hoping. Waiting for his surgically repaired knee to heal so he can soon start jogging and jumping again. Hoping that his brand-new team really might hire Rick Adelman as its next coach. "That's my guy," he said. Minneapolis Star-Tribune Player and coach were united for the third time in their careers on Tuesday, when the Wolves, in a bit of serendipity, announced Adelman will replace fired Kurt Rambis. "When they were interviewing candidates, I was hoping a lot," Miller said. "I knew if it was Rick, Minnesota would be a lot better. Instantly, things became a lot better there, especially for me. He's a coach I respect, a fair coach. "This guy, it's true what he can do. His record speaks for itself." Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

Twitter ![]() The Minnesota Timberwolves’ complications in the NBA draft never seem to end. Sports. Yahoo! Sports To keep the deal from falling apart, Minnesota sent a 2012 second-round pick to the Rockets, league sources said. ![]() Brad Miller, who maintains his home in Sacramento, showed up at a King reunion and surprised friends with news he had microfracture surgery. Miller said he hopes to return in mid-season. Forget it. He's done. NBA.com "I ain't got much vertical to get back [and] it's really not going to slow me down. [The doctors] said, 'You're the ideal candidate for this. A non-jumping, slow white guy. You shouldn't really lose much.' No explosiveness is going to be lost here." -- Brad Miller, who acknowledged at a public event Saturday in Sacramento that he underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee in May, which will keep him out at least six months. It doesn't sound as if longevity is much of a factor, either, as Miller has one year worth $4.7 million (plus a final year worth less than $1 million guaranteed) remaining on his deal with the Rockets and is noncommittal on the idea of playing any longer. He averaged just 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 17 minutes per game last season, having signed with Houston as backup to Yao Ming. "I'll play next year, and see how I feel after that," he said. "That's as far as I'm thinking right now." SI.com ![]() Rockets center Brad Miller revealed Saturday that he had microfracture knee surgery last month and will be out at least until January. Speaking at a Sacramento Kings rally Saturday, Miller said after struggling with the knee most of last season he was advised to undergo a more extreme solution than he expected after the season. But the area treated was smaller than with many microfracture surgeries, with the procedure expected to help his performance, rather than force a long adjustment period. “I had it scoped last summer, but the issues came back,” Miller said. “It’s in a non-weight-bearing bone so it’s the best place possible. I should be back around January. I should be able to get my 12-inch vertical and 6.3 40 — or maybe 8.3 40 — back. With the lockout possible, I might not even miss games. I could come into the league after a lockout (in 1998) and go out after a lockout.” Houston Chronicle |

“Obviously, I’m disappointed,” Miller said. “I hoped they would bring him back the way everything got going this year. “He still wanted to coach. It came down to if they wanted him. He was still coaching, doing all he could do. He had the desire and will and wanted to. That is the NBA. Every so often, they throw out a reminder to you it still is a business. He’s been there, done that, coached all over, been successful. But I had that feeling like all of us it wasn’t going to work for him to be back. It’s sad.” Houston Chronicle |
