Phil Jackson will not be coaching the Nets. As first reported by The Post Tuesday, a league source said that Jackson is not looking to coach. The Nets had contacted Jackson in order to gauge his interest in possibly returning to the sidelines and taking over as coach after deciding not to bring back interim coach P.J. Carlesimo. New York Post

The Nets, who fired Avery Johnson in late December and decided not to re-sign interim P.J. Carlesimo after their first-round playoff loss to Chicago, are expected to turn their attention to the coaching candidates not named Jackson now. According to two people with knowledge of the search, that list includes Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, longtime NBA coach and current Southern Methodist University coach Larry Brown, and former Milwaukee and Chicago coach Scott Skiles. While the Jackson situation has to play out before some of the other candidates will be considered, former Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls coach Scott Skiles is also on the Nets' list, according to that same person. USA Today Sports

A day after firing interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo, the Brooklyn Nets did what almost everyone around the NBA expected they would do, contacting Phil Jackson and inquiring about his interest in coaching the team next season, according to a league source. The Nets will obviously wait to see if Jackson is at all willing to coach there before moving on to their list of other coaching candidates. There was no indication how long Jackson would take before responding to the inquiry. NBA.com

The Nets, according to the league source, believe strongly that the next coach must possess offensive creativity they believed Carlesimo--and his predecessor, Johnson--lacked. The Nets often bogged down into isolation sets for guard Joe Johnson, or threw the ball into center Brook Lopez without incorporating the other players on the court. King believes the triangle offense would be ideal for the team's personnel, according to the source. NBA.com
