Milwaukee Bucks forward Carlos Delfino underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia Thursday and will not be able to return to on-court basketball activities for six to eight weeks, the Bucks announced. The sports hernia was related to the right groin injury Delfino suffered in a game March 26 at New York. The surgery was performed by William Meyers in Philadelphia. Delfino was hampered at the end of the season by the right groin injury and missed 10 games, including the last four. He played in 54 games (53 starts) and averaged 9.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Just how patriotic is Carlos Delfino? Well, he’s so patriotic that he fully intends on playing for the Argentine national team in the Summer Olympics in London — even though it might not be in his best interest. That’s because Delfino, the Milwaukee Bucks’ starting small forward, has a significant tear in his right groin that will require surgery. While some players might be inclined to take their time having the surgery, Delfino wants to get it out of the way as quickly as possible. “I want to get it done soon so I can play for the national team in the Olympics,” Delfino said. “It’ll take about six to eight weeks to heal, so I won’t have much time to get ready for the national team. But I’m going to try.” Racine Journal-Times

The Bucks open against the Bobcats and return the next night for their home opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves. "I'd love to train every day, but in the grand scheme of things I don't want to be feeling like I am today on Monday, just by trying to be a hero and train," Bogut said. "I think things will be OK." Other Bucks to miss practice Friday included forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (knee tendinitis), forward Carlos Delfino (sprained right wrist), guard Mike Dunleavy Jr. (illness) and rookie forward Tobias Harris (dehydration issues). Delfino, who was sidelined for about two months last season with a serious concussion and spent an extended period of time in a secluded dark room of his apartment to avoid any light and noise, was standing next to one of his fellow hunters when the latter fired his rifle. The booming sound stunned Delfino. "As soon as he shot his rifle, I said, ‘Oh, ----," Delfino said. "It was a big boom and I didn't have my protective (earplugs) in. "It shook me up for a second; I had those concussion problems and then this happens." Delfino then laughed and said, "I put my them (the protective earplugs) in right away." Racine Journal-Times

And the Bucks forward said he is happiest about the news regarding Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. On Saturday the Bucks matched Denver's four-year, $18.7 million offer to the restricted free agent. "It's huge," Delfino said. "I've been playing with Luc the last two seasons and he's a main guy for us. Maybe when you talk about the Milwaukee Bucks, he's not the first name that comes for people. "But he's a main guy in our defense and our philosophy of game. He's a great guy as well in the locker room. For us, he's one of the most valuable players. "We're going to need him. He can play the 3 (small forward), the 4 (power forward). He's been practicing and working the last couple years like crazy. He's continuing to work to grow." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Agent Andy Miller on Delfino "He's had a number of offers," Miller said. "His family is in Argentina and he's rarely had an opportunity to be at home this time of year. He has an Italian passport. But we want to make sure it is the right set of circumstances (to sign with a European team). His season lasted longer than most; his ended in September. So he's not in as much of a rush. He had a pretty competitive summer. "He's a very active person and charitable person in the Argentine community. So he's got other things going on." Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Carlos Delfino: “I’m itching to play and compete. I was confident there would be a solution (to the lockout) that would allow me to return to the States and play. But the way things are right now, I probably need to seriously look at my options elsewhere because, quite probably, we may not have any other option. “There were talks with teams, but it’s all pretty dead now. After speaking with Siena, we have not received any other offer. There’s not a lot of movement right now. I’m going to ask my agent to see what’s out there. Teams like Siena intrigue me because they are ambitious teams, but we’ll see what happens in the next few days. If I sign a contract, it would have to be one with an NBA out. My wish is to stay with the Bucks. They made me feel wanted and have really taken care of me. I can only be grateful to them.” HoopsHype

That was three years ago, when Delfino signed with Khimki Moscow at a time where Russian clubs where dominating the European market and attracting big names from the NBA. What he went through in Russia wasn’t an NBA-type experience, though. “I didn’t feel comfortable. The toughest part is when you have to think about things other than basketball. You think about whether you’re going to get paid or not, how the trips are going to be… In the NBA, you don’t have to think about it. In Europe, there are clubs where those things are not taken care of. In Khimki, I was with a big team with a big budget, but you didn’t know if they were going to pay you. That’s a distraction and it makes you uncomfortable. In the NBA, you get used to not having to think about stuff like that. That’s why I decided to go to Milwaukee and sign for a smaller amount of money compared to what I was making in Europe. “I never took basketball as a job until I played in Russia. It didn’t feel right, so I decided to go where I felt the most comfortable… And that’s the NBA.” HoopsHype

There were high expectations for the Bucks and Delfino last season, but it all took a bad turn for him early in the season when he started experiencing dizziness after suffering a concussion and taking two hits to the ear and cheekbone within a week. What followed were more than two and a half months of recovery. According to 6-foot-6 swingman, it was one of the toughest moments in his life. It was mentally challenging and plain boring. “I couldn’t read a book, use the computer, watch TV or have a conversation because I would have terrible headaches. I just stared at the ceiling, but that also gave me headaches because you start thinking too much. “My wife’s dog, Bongo, helped me a lot. I taught the dog to do stuff when I was finally able to leave the house. It had to be at night because the daylight bothered me. I would walk him around near the house. The dog was kind of my reference those days.” HoopsHype
