Cavs' Felix will spend some time in Canton Carrick Felix sat in the Canton Charge’s locker room on Tuesday when the Cavaliers made their annual pilgrimage to the home of their D-League brethren. The Cavs shooting guard ought to familiarize himself with the surroundings. There’s a very good chance he’s going to spend some time in the National Basketball Development League this season. Before the Cavs’ dreadful 92-74 preseason loss to the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday, Coach Mike Brown sized up Felix’s chances of going to the D-League. “Canton might see him a few times,” Brown said. That’s not necessarily a knock on the 6-foot-6, 201-pounder’s ability. It’s more a testament to how the Cavs have upgraded the shooting guard/small forward spots. Sulia

Basketball was not Carrick Felix's first love. Believe it or not, the Cavaliers rookie swingman initially wanted to make his living on a skateboard. "I wanted to be the next Tony Hawk,'' he said, referring to the most famous skateboarder in the world. From the age of 7, when a neighbor kid on a skateboard landed in Felix's front yard outside Phoenix, until his junior year in high school, Felix was on his board all day every day. "i was always outside practicing from 7 o'clock in the morning to 12 o'clock at night,'' he admitted. Cleveland Plain Dealer

He may find that the fall and winter go a little more slowly. Not only is there the grind of his first NBA season, but he will be separated from his 1-year-old daughter Zayah, who lives in Idaho with her mother. Felix said he and his daughter Face Time every day. "It's definitely hard, but it's motivation for me,'' said Felix, who has a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's degree in liberal arts and sciences from ASU. "My daughter's going to know that all I'm doing is for her. Dad's got to go to work. This is something I've got to do now. This is my job.'' Cleveland Plain Dealer

Carrick Felix impressed in summer camp to the point that the team paid him slightly more than minimum for a second-round pick. He receives $510,000 this season, as opposed to $490,000. His second-year salary is $816,000. Both are guaranteed. Making the contract interesting is the next two seasons. Felix will receive $947,000 in 2015-16 and $1 million in 2016-17. Both are club options. So if Felix becomes a good player, he'll be under contract for four years. Cleveland Plain Dealer
