![]() Martin, who becomes a free agent at the end of the season, scored 16 points in a 120-99 loss at the New York Knicks earlier this week, making six of 12 shots, including four of 7 from three, in 20 minutes of play. He had a season-high 23 points in a 101-92 loss at the Golden State Warriors on March 23, making 8 of 13 shots, including six of nine threes, in 30 minutes. “At times, yeah,” Martin said about thinking of his future with three games left in the regular season. “Especially dealing with these year-to-year contracts. You always have a sense and think about security and the best position for you and where you’ll end up next season. I’m confident that I’ll still be playing. I got to stay healthy.” CSNWashington.com "I would love to be back in Washington. I love the fans here. I love the atmosphere. It’s a great place to play," he said. "If they want to bring me back, I’d feel more than (happy) to help them get to the playoffs next year." CSNWashington.com |

The Washington Wizards held Kids Day over the weekend. To help promote Kids Day, they invited De’La, a Wizards Junior Reporter, in to interview some of the Wizards. She asked Martell Webster (“Marty”), Garrett Temple, Cartier Martin and John Wall about their shoe sizes and celebrity crushes. She even got John Wall to do the Dougie, but she had to do it with him. The results were adorable as the Washington players joked around and mostly just made her giggle the entire time. The Big Lead |

![]() “I feel like Washington was the best situation for me at this time,” (Cartier) Martin said while in Las Vegas. “Being able to come back in with the staff, gives me a little bit of comfort, being familiar and understanding what they want and I feel that will give me more confidence as a player to showcase my full potential. I’m thankful for the opportunity to come back.” Washington Post |

Craig Stouffer: In case reminding was needed that #Wizards don't have grandiose free agency plans: Cartier Martin on a 1yr minimum deal. Makes good sense. Twitter Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has re-signed forward/guard Cartier Martin. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released. "Cartier has been with our team for parts of the past three seasons and he has always made a positive contribution both on the court and in the locker room," said Grunfeld. "In addition to his three-point shooting touch, he is a good defender and gives us another solid veteran to help solidify our bench." NBA.com |

On the drive, Martin made a phone call to transfer some money — to help control spending, he had only a small amount accessible at any given time — and ran into an problem. He’d turned most of his money over to be managed by Dave Salinas, a friend and mentor. Salinas, a successful Houston-area financial adviser, guided Martin through AAU ball, had been a constant confidante and even bought Martin his first car. “A father figure,” Martin calls him. Martin didn’t know what was wrong with his account and didn’t have time to figure it out. He attended the funeral and when he turned on his phone later, he was inundated with text messages: Have you heard the news? Washington Post Salinas had shot and killed himself. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission had unearthed a Ponzi scheme in which Salinas reportedly told his clients he was putting their money in corporate bonds. In all, Salinas may have defrauded more than 100 investors of more than $50 million, according to court records, and people like Martin, Texas Tech Coach Billy Gillispie and Gonzaga Coach Mark Few were left with nothing. “I had just seen him two weeks before that. He took me to lunch and he was telling me how proud he was of me for being able to save my money,” Martin said. “It just really hurt. He played me. I felt betrayed by the whole thing.” Washington Post Martin said he lost “hundreds of thousands.” While he’s working with attorneys to recoup some of that money from Salinas’s estate, he was instantly put in a bind last summer. Martin said he had only $1,000 in his account and with the NBA lockout jeopardizing the 2011-12 season, he didn’t know when he’d receive another paycheck. Washington Post |

Cartier Martin has been on quite the adventure in the year since he last suited up for the Wizards. He underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot, recovered, signed in China because of uncertainty about the lockout, dropped 49 points in a game against J.R. Smith, and went back to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League to play in anticipation of another call-up. Martin finally found his way back to Washington on Wednesday when he signed a 10-day contract with a team he is very familiar with, despite some of the recent coaching, personnel and even uniform/color changes. But after practice, Martin insisted that the Wizards are also getting a different player than the one who played 52 games with the team last season and eight the season before. Washington Post The Washington Wizards have found solid replacement players from the NBA Development League in the past and, in a move that shouldn't be surprising, they're going with what's worked once again. After a 10-day testing period of Edwin Ubiles, Washington has decided to dig into the D-League once again. Cartier Martin is expected to sign with the Wizards, according to a league source, after playing 52 games with the team last season. Martin decided to play in China while the NBA lockout situation was being sorted out, but returned to the Iowa Energy earlier this month. Ridiculous Upside |

Ridiculous Upside The Wizards are set to have a reunion with Cartier Martin and sign him to a 10-day contract in advance of their game against the Indiana Pacers, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Martin is averaging 18.3 points and has connected on 15 of 27 three-point field goal attempts (55.6 percent) in seven games with the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League. Martin averaged 26.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in 30 games in China before joining the Wizards’ D-League affiliate in Iowa. He also is familiar with the Wizards, having spent part of the past two seasons with the Wizards and participating in summer league with John Wall in the summer of 2010. He averaged 4.0 points and shot 39.4 percent from beyond the three-point line in 52 games for the Wizards last season but suffered a stress fracture in his left foot after earlier missing action with a strained right patella tendon. Last week, SI.com reported that several coaches and athletic administrators were scammed out of millions by the late Houston-area money manager and AAU operator David Salinas. After reviewing documents, and in conjunction with a forthcoming story in this week's Sports Illustrated, SI.com can add more names to the list. The dollar figure following each name is the most recent valuation of their particular at-risk investment, which was purported to be in corporate bonds. Two NBA players, 2010 Warriors lottery pick Ekpe Udoh ($350,000) and former Wizards swingman Cartier Martin ($374,000), were confirmed to be clients by SI. So was one former athletic director and NCAA selection committee member, Rudy Davalos ($83,000). The investment of 13 college basketball coaches alone, meanwhile, is valued at nearly $8 million. The total amount of money in the bonds, whose very existence remains in doubt, is an estimated $55 million, none of which has been recovered. SI.com |

Michael Lee: #wizards have waived Cartier Martin, signed Larry Owens from D-League's Tulsa 66ers & re-signed Othyus Jeffers for rest of the season Twitter (Cartier) Martin is the most likely candidate to be released, with his season already finished after he sustained a stress fracture in his left foot. Martin averaged 4.0 points and shot 39.4 percent from beyond the three-point line in 52 games for the Wizards this season. Saunders said that Martin would probably need surgery. Washington Post |
