HoopsHype Cartier Martin rumors
The Wizards have 12 players under contract heading into training camp, and that likely will not change much over the next few weeks. They have extended training camp invites to Lester Hudson and Cartier Martin, but the team has not decided whether it will enter the year with 13, 14 or 15 players. Washington Post
They still have a qualifying offer out for Cartier Martin, who played well at summer league and is expected to get a training camp invitation. Lester Hudson is also likely going to audition for a spot when the team convenes in late September. The team rescinded a qualifying offer for Cedric Jackson last week, making him an unrestricted free agency. It is also still undecided about signing second-round pick Hamady N'Diaye. "We're working on finalizing the last couple of spots on the roster," Grunfeld said. "We have a couple of months to do that. We're going to see which opportunities are available to us, which players are available to us and then we'll act accordingly. Washington Post
"Cartier Martin played well for us in summer league and there are some other names that are still out there who may be able to help us," he said. "We'll bring in some more players before it's all said and done to bring in some more depth [at small forward]." Washington Post
He delivered on that lesson Thursday night, making all five of his first-half shots and finishing with a team-high 23 points in the team's third straight summer league win. The 25-year-old Martin has also spent time in Europe and with Golden State and Charlotte, and said he's trying to convince Wizards officials that he deserves another shot in Washington. "I really don't know," he said, when asked about the chances of that happening. "But I'm confident being here, so hopefully they'll give me a chance, and I'm definitely gonna prove that I can play in this league." Washington Post
