Adelman said midseason acquisitions Mickael Gelabale and Chris Johnson have shown enough that they are candidates to be on the team next season, especially if they work on their games during the offseason. “This summer will be big for them,” Adelman said. “We like them both.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

Still, it might be Johnson who has the best chance to stick with the team long term, because of his size (6-11) and jumping ability. "We don't have somebody like that," Kahn said. Kahn indicated both players would be given the chance to work into the team's future plans. "I think in both cases there is a pathway to being here next year," he said. "It's not a done deal, but there is a pathway. Chris may be in a little bit of a different instance because [of his size]. So I would say he probably especially has a chance." Wolves coach Rick Adelman made clear that signing the two shouldn't preclude the team from trying to improve the roster more. "We'd better be hoping to do something," he said. "We have to improve this team." Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

Wallace also said the Grizzlies will make a decision on Friday morning whether to re-sign Chris Johnson, whose 10-day contract expires after Friday night’s game. Johnson, a 6-5 guard who had been playing in the NBA’s Development League, is shooting 58 percent from the field and 46 percent in three-pointers in his short Griz stint. Memphis Commercial Appeal |

Johnson's 10-day deal expires Friday after the Griz host the Washington Wizards. Memphis can only sign Johnson to a maximum of two 10-day contracts, or ink him for the rest of the season. A second 10-day deal would essentially have Johnson helping the Griz until they reach All-Star Weekend. "I root for these between-the-crack guys," general manager Chris Wallace said. "He's a confident guy without being overbearing about it. He's been a seamless fit. Hopefully, he can keep it up." Memphis Commercial Appeal Wallace and vice president of basketball operations John Hollinger were impressed by Johnson last month at the D-League showcase. Wallace was sold when he later booked a trip to Reno to watch Griz rookie Tony Wroten. Circumstances dictated that Wroten remain with Memphis but Wallace went to Reno anyway. Coincidently, Johnson was in town with his Rio Grande Valley squad, providing for that team exactly what he's giving the Griz. "The best thing is he's not a guy who needs the ball," Wallace said. "He's not a ball-stopper. We didn't need a guy coming in who needed to monopolize the ball to score." Memphis Commercial Appeal |

Both center Chris Johnson and swingman Michael Gelabale will be around a little while longer. Both signed a second 10-day contract with the Timberwolves, the team announced Tuesday. That means the team was granted another roster injury exception. Johnson has appeared in five games for the Wolves, averaging 9.2 points while shooting 18-for-25 (72.0 percent). He has also averaged 3.8 rebounds while playing 17.2 minutes per game. Johnson, who was in training camp with the Wolves, came back to Minnesota from San Jose of the Development League. Minneapolis Star-Tribune Chris Vernon: Sources believe it's extremely likely that Grizz sign Chris Johnson for 2nd 10-day contract on Friday. No surprise. Twitter @ChrisVernonShow |

The Wolves will re-sign both Mickael Gelabale and Chris Johnson for the rest of the season, won't they? They almost certainly will, but they will have to make a roster move to do so. The Wolves used an open roster spot to sign Gelabale to a 10-day contract and are likely to resign him to another when the first one expires Tuesday. They signed Johnson to a 10-day deal after the league granted their request for a roster exception because they had four players injured for the next two weeks or more. They could reapply for another exception Tuesday, but thereafter would have to create a roster spot for him because a player can only be signed to two 10-day deals before their contract must be guaranteed for the rest of the season. To do so, the Wolves would have to trade a player such as Lou Amundson for a future pick or waive a player. Minneapolis Star-Tribune |

I've spoken to a GM who believes the talent in the D-League has never been better, Robbie, and that there were at least 12 to 15 good NBA players at the showcase. Here are a half-dozen of them: Chris Wright, 6-1 G, Iowa Chris Johnson, 6-11 C, Santa Cruz Travis Leslie, 6-4 G, Santa Cruz Shelvin Mack, 6-3 G, Maine DaJuan Summers, 6-8 F, Maine Damion James, Bakersfield (recently called up by the Nets) SI.com |

The Wolves, as expected, waived training-camp invitees center Chris Johnson and forward Mike Harris by today's deadline to set their season-opening roster. That gets them down to the maximum 15 players, and it means former D Leaguer Will Conroy will start the season with the team as an extra point guard. The Wolves have 14 players with guaranteed contracts, so all 14 were certain to make the final roster. ![]() The Orlando Magic have waived wing Quentin Richardson, combo forward Justin Harper and wing Chris Johnson, team officials said. The moves bring the team's roster down to 15 players, ahead of the NBA-mandated 5 p.m. Monday deadline. It also means that wing DeQuan Jones, an undrafted rookie and former Miami Hurricanes player, made the regular-season roster. Richardson, 32, didn't fit into the Magic's long-term plans, and he didn't play in Orlando's final four preseason games. Orlando Sentinel |
